General MLS Discussion

“We’re still in a good spot in the table," said Curtin, whose Union hold a one-point lead on four others atop the Eastern Conference. "We haven’t played our best game yet, which I’m OK with. We’ve had some guys have very good seasons, we’ve had some guys have some average seasons, and some that need to do a little bit better for the group. But the message is, if we get everybody just going good, this team, is there a team in the league that’s better than us?” - jim curtin

come on jimmy.

Some coach this year better sarcastically talk about that there’s no team better than Philly after beating them badly. Bulletin board material here.

curtin will just say we weren't at our best. it's only when we are playing our best that there is no team better than us.

are they top of the east? yes. are they the best? very relative. Can they grind out results - definitely. Are they an exciting team to watch? nope.

to be fair - ronny has said things like "if everyone does their jobs, then we can beat anybody". which is similar in meaning to what curtin said... but his phrasing just rubs me the wrong way. that and they don't even play beautiful soccer.

it is crazy to me that the highest paid MLS player right now is shaquiri (8m). if NYCFC signed him for that much, i would absolutely lose all faith in the club and their decision making. what the hell are chicago thinking!?

chicarito is #2 at 6 mill, but at least you know if you give him chances, he'll find goals.

the other mind blown moment is altidore still gets 4 mill... INSANITY.
They need to sell tickets.

Highly enjoyable moment of commentary during this Portland Philly game when they were talking about last season, how Portland got to the Cup final and Philly to the eastern conference final and “both had their season ended by the same team, NYCFC”

New Power Rankings.

lol. omar gonzalez continues to go down hill.... helping the revs drop more points tonight.

Worth watching this one for its absolute shocker of a blunder - such a shame that Bruce didn’t play him in the open cup, could have saved us from having to play extra time.

imagine you work 70+ minutes to go up a goal and then 2 minutes later Omar does this. Yikes.

not only that, but he gave philly a point so they remain up our ass in the table.

That only occurs if the Philly player is right in that exact spot. Omar was trying to clear the ball to the opposite side, likely for a throw, but fluffed the kick and it was a goal. Yeah, Bruce is trying to recreate the team 2017 USMNT. Surprised he also didn’t try and bring in Bradley.

Seattle wins CL and then goes ahead and decides their season is over? I guess? I'm confused at them lol
