Funny thing about hindsight bias when it is actually foresight. Read the NJ match thread, it's all right there. You don't play meaningless games that risk your chances of winning real ones. Particularly when, if we won (we didn't), we would have had to play the B team anyway before the Minnesota game. Lots of saltiness here, but I understand that it's hard to admit when you are wrong.
If you haven't noticed, very few posters, if any, would have done anything different last night, so making a blanket statement implying that many on the Forums lack self-awareness is comical. Stop looking in the mirror when you write your posts and take
Christopher Jee 's advice and go enjoy the rest of the evening. But if you can't get out for a beer tonight, DM me at the game Saturday and I'll buy you a beer and tell you with a straight face that playing Maxi was the right decision.

Actually no, I said your statement implies we aren't self-aware, because you said we can't admit when we're wrong. People that admit when they're wrong are self aware.
I freely admit when I'm wrong, and the choice to play Maxi last night wasn't the wrong decision. If it was the wrong decision, then Mata should be pissed because he participated in a pointless practice today.
I also love dissenting points of view, because when they're backed up with facts and logic, I can learn something. I learn a lot in my heated discussions with mgarbowski and sbrylski among others. I learn crazy slander words from
Midas Mulligan DM before halftime and we'll figure out a meet up.
This is stupid. Plenty of us disagree all the time.
I don't care about your feelings or anyone else's. Just so happens, you're holding a minority opinion. You don't have to convince everyone.
Also, maybe no more than 2 told you so posts per actual point. It's just decorum.
I admit I'm wrong fairly often. It's the best way to improve one's chances of being right in the future.
There were several possible outcomes of last night's result and setup. I thought the positive outcomes outweighed the negative outcomes by some function of upside and probability. Even the actual outcome hints that a positive outcome was more likely than not - IMO it was a loss due to bad luck rather than intent or judgment.
Probability / luck is a funny old thing that makes fools of the sage and the foolish alike. If you toss a coin a number of times, you may not end up with an even number of heads and tails - that doesn't necessarily mean the coin has been tampered with.
Come on now, similar versions of the open cup are very meaningful in other countries, therefore to be a serious soccer country we must mimic all previous traditions and place importance on all of the exactly the same things regardless of how meaningless they are locally.
First rule of the internet, never admit you are wrong. You're a seasoned Vet. You should know that. Do better next time.

On Pirlo: We need a playmaker in midfield. He can be a guy that sprays the ball around, and we're going to need that. Play him in a more advanced role and let Herrera be the protector for the backline. -- Herrera was supposed to take this game off after returning from U-20's, but it feels like we need him too badly, now.
The question is whether Pirlo can give us an hour, or if he can only come off the bench in his first appearance back. If he can't give us an hour, then I suppose you have to go with T-Mac, which obviously isn't ideal.
On the backline -- I'd rather give Allen another chance instead of Sweat or White, but I'd be surprised if Vieira makes that change. I also really, really hope Chanot is able to go, because Brillant is not a good defender.
Minor clarification... last time Ring and Hererra played together, Ring was the DMid shielding the back line with Hererra playing box to box. That's how he got 1G/1A in the game. Probably stay with that arrangement.
Here's a novel idea.... if Pirlo can't go and has to sub out, what about making Lewis the defacto Poor-man's Silva? I'm pretty sure in the u20 tuneup games I saw him play in, he was pulling Some strings from the middle and arcing to either corner to make the centering cross. Let him pick up the ball in a withdrawn position and with the movement our front line usually makes with Villa swinging left, it could open up a lane for Lewis to race straight at goal with the CB shadowing Villa. Even if he doesn't play a lick of D, I'd take his speed and dribbling in the middle over TMac any day of the week.
Or play central mid Jack Harrison as a central mid and Winger Jonathan Lewis as a winger
Sounds like Villa will be wearing a special Pride Day captain's armband.

Interesting, because wasn't it rumored that last year it took so long to change the armband because Villa was superstitious? Which would also explain his fascination for long sleeves this year
