Now we know where Glenn Crooks got his information that the original report was wrong.
A few things.
First, the sliding scale based on years of service only applies to Generation Adidas players taken in the Superdraft. So, we get the full 2/3 of the fee.
Second, what we get 2/3 of is not the total transfer price, but the price net of the amount shared with his former club (the split is 50-50).
Third, as NYCFCfan rightly points out above, the money we spent to acquire our 50% interest in Matarrita is not netted against the transfer fee when determining the 2/3 vs. 1/3 split, but it also does not reduce the amount we can take in GAM - which is up to $650,000 of what we receive.
So, taking your example. If the transfer fee is $1.95 million, we split that 50-50 with Alajuelense, which leaves $975,000. We then give the league 1/3 of that amount, or $325,000. We can use the rest ($650,000) as GAM, with the club eating the $325,000 it paid for him.
I think that's basically correct, but it certainly is confusing.

I'd say Crooks is probably the second most tuned in guy on the beat, behind the indefatigable NYCFCfan . I have no problem with him passing along something from someone else that he clearly says is passed along info. This Glenn Crooks guy is a bad, bad reporter. I wouldn't trust him if he said it was a sunny day outside. How about he tries to confirm something before blindly putting it out? Brutal.

He's got more access to coaches etc. than anyone I've seen so far. I think you have to take each reporter at what they are. Unless they are are the national soccer beat reporters, just ignore them. And Kurt LarSUN. Ignore him then troll him.Agreed. But he's never right. He and Ian Joy are almost used as mouthpieces of the club to spread false news (unwittingly).

It's a great sign that we were able to target and then bring over a kid of the quality warranting interest and, in fact, getting offers from top tier clubs. Score one for the CFG scouting network and the prominence of the New York stage. And Mata now has set the blueprint for budding international stars (more likely from Central/South America) looking at New York as an effective launching pad into the top tier. Mata (to his credit) made that very clear in his early interviews, and his plan seems to have played out flawlessly. Bring on some more (though let's hope that a bit longer than one season becomes the trend).
Won't click. Too afraid I'll see Nixon's dick. The Crooks piece.
Ok, I was able to get it sorted.
There is NO agreement with Dortmund.
There have been transfer offers but NYCFC want to buy out his full transfer rights first.
There are no meetings today. The only discussions being held are in regards to his transfer rights.
Question on if we buy his full transfer rights, does that additional amount then get amortized over the remaining part of his contract were he to stay?Ok, I was able to get it sorted.
