Yeah. Almeyda has been impressive, but his system is somewhat gimmicky and appears to have been figured out.
Heath is a legit contender. Dome should get tons of credit for all of the adjustments he has made throughout the season.
He has to get consideration. With just one roster change of note (adding Espinoza who is good but not a superstar) they more than doubled their point total from last year even if they lose the next 2. He took a team for whom dismal was a euphemism and made them fun. Because of the late slide I doubt he wins. I think Bradley and Dome are the Tier 1 candidates. But then I would list Almeyda and maybe Curtin. Not really anyone after that. I see people listing Heath. I guess he and Curtin have somewhat similar cases in that neither is new and managed to bring a long term project to fruition this year. But though their records are close I rate the Union more highly than Minnesota and Curtin over Heath.Almeyda is this close to missing the playoffs and he’d be manager of the year?
His team has lost four straight games and finishing against Seattle and at Portland.
Joe Toleson was on with Jason Davis today on USOS. The juicy stuff was on from around 12:50-1:00 if you can search for it. They discussed the NYCFC playoff stadium situation in depth. Some juicy tidbits I remember from Joe:
“I don’t get paid by the team”
“2nd or 3rd hand info tells me that the MLS office already knows that NYCFC will not be allowed to host the MLS Cup in YS”
“Why play any games in YS if they won’t let you play the playoffs there?”
“Citi has the fans closer the the field and will be a great soccer atmosphere”
Def worth a listen if you can find it.
A lifetime of trolling ammunition when NYCFC wins the MLS Cup at Red Bull Arena.“2nd or 3rd hand info tells me that the MLS office already knows that NYCFC will not be allowed to host the MLS Cup in YS”

You may be pleased to hear that one of the dudes on the NYCFC Nation podcast said (for whatever that’s worth) in reference to all this that the team is looking at splitting regular season games between el Yankees and Citi Field going forward.I think a split schedule with YS & Citi going forward can solve the other problems.

“The Heber goal was stupid, as he tackled Leandro Gonzalez Pirez before putting Brad Guzan on a Slip ‘N Slide.“NYCFC rides Mitrita 1st half hat trick to cusp of East's No. 1 seed
Maxi Moralez assisted Mitrita's second goal, and became just the third player in MLS history to register 20 assists in a season.soccer.nbcsports.com
IIRC in the last week the team has been featured in the Times, Newsday, NBCsports, among other unfamiliar spots. Some great play is adding some buzz. Imagine what a Cup would do. And imagine even bigger if the team formally announces building a half billion dollar soccer stadium in f’ng New York City. That’s everyone will know who we are buzz.NYCFC rides Mitrita 1st half hat trick to cusp of East's No. 1 seed

Nice video here from the MLS in house crew breaking down our first goal and then talking about the team. They are definitely drinking the Kool Aid right now (which actually has me a little nervous).

Aren't Gil and Heber both foreign? Gil is from Spain and listed as an International on the MLS Roster page.I acknowledge there's an inherit bias against NYCFC from MLSsoccer.com, but I even more see an inherit bias against foreign players.
Heber had 15G/4A in 22 appearances (18 starts). Gil had 10G/14A in 34 appearances (34 starts). Gil played nearly twice the amount of minutes compared to Heber.
