I agree with @Kjbert and @MagnusPax that it would be odd to make Josh Saunders our starter. From what I have read he is no longer considered to be a top MLS keeper by previous fan bases (and in the case of Real Salt Lake by the management staff).
If there is one position that the US can compete with any other nationality as far as quality it is goalkeeper—I am sure we are looking at a younger American with more skill and potential than Saunders to take on the starting role.
If not, I imagine we are confident of our defensive targets so that the keeper position is not as vital (though, that would be a very risky strategy).
Measured faith in management and an abundant patience I suppose are the tenets of our current existence.
