unless, they are also basing his ranking on potential (which they really shouldn’t) or the player pool of u23s is small.

yes they are , at least after like the top 8 ish or so. because lots of them are potentially very good but we dont know for sure yet. some are still playin first pro year.

I think this helps prove my point unfortunately. Talles is in the top 30 in the 22 and below players with at the moment 381 minutes played 5 total shots and 1 goal for the season. He’s a young talent that could potentially grow into his price tag but I feel like he’s not worthy of touching the top 30 u23 players in the league unless, they are also basing his ranking on potential (which they really shouldn’t) or the player pool of u23s is small. He just hasn’t played enough or produced enough to be ranked so highly without a small field of players

talles magno has gone from being scouted for a possible transfer to Liverpool to not even being able to make an impact in MLS in what 1.5 years? Rocket downward. I get potential but he needs to show something to justify it.

I don’t think you pass judgement no matter what happens in the final six games because he was hurt and is adjusting…but if he isn’t markedly improved at the start of next year, wow.

He also cost us a shitload of money

No one expected fireworks from him this fast. We knew going in that he was coming off an injury, and I can almost 100% guarantee NYCFC did this as a "wow he's really cheap now, but if we wait a year he'll probably double in price" type of situation.

We've also seen so many examples over the years of players struggling to adapt to MLS in their first year here, then starting to cook after that.

So between his injury and the adaptation time -- plus the fact that he's only 19 damn years old playing in a foreign country for the first time in his career -- the guy deserves the benefit of the doubt and we need to give him some patience. It's terribly unfair to the player to make declarative statements about him at this stage.

Someone tell me what Magno does “great.” He’s not fast. He’s not particularly strong although he has the build for it. I don’t think he can get by defenders. Haven’t seen his ability from outside the box. Maybe a decent passer.

What’s his position

I don't think he does anything great at the moment. But don't think that means he can't do particular things great next year, or years after that.

I agree with some of your assessments above except that he is decently strong and probably not a decent passer. His holdup play is decent.

Perhaps his best current ability is his dribbling ability, though it doesn't seem to be great in terms of taking defenders 1v1 but moreso ability to hold possession when challenged and then find an easy lay off pass.

I'd like to see him strike the ball hard and take a shot. The only shots we've seen him take have been off of crosses and whatnot where he's just directing it on goal. I know nothing about his ability to strike the ball.

He also has this strange habit of slowing down when he has the ball, but not in circumstances where he should be attempting to hold up play. It looks like he's just leisurely controlling the ball and casually surveying what to do, rather than playing with tempo, directly attacking defenders, etc.

That’s what I think too. He lacks pace so can’t play out wide. No idea if he can score around goal. So not a 9.

But he needs to be an incredible facilitator as a 10 to warrant the cost.

thing is hes been playing as a winger this whole time, if its not his best position, he wont excel. i didnt see the dallas game so not sure where he played.

next year with maxi gone he may get that spot? since it seems ronny has santi as a winger as well.

I think it was the home loss against the Red Bull’s? Where the slow decision making was glaring to me. Cost us two great chances. I’m willing to give him time but if he has big talent it is really raw and not so easy for someone like me to get a feeling for at present.

Medina. Santi. Both better in that spot. Throw in Ronny playing 3 defensive midfielders too. Don’t see it.

You would expect to see a flash of brilliance. Thiago had “the goal”

medina is not a 10 lol we both know that. He plays him in that role but he is not effective there at least doesnt do what a 10 is supposed to do ( i feel ITS did better whenever he was put there as emergency) if talles is to be considered as a 10 he is at the very least equal to medina in depth not below.

santi should be the 10, feels like he is the natural maxi replacement. but like i said ronny likes to play him wide this year though it could be because maxi is still here.

3 d mids feels like he does it in a few games its normally parks/ morales or parks acevedo as he is playing sands as a CB more now.

next year we will have our answers for that role

Someone should have asked what his favorite pasta sauce is, just to be consistent. Maybe pasta is the Delia era while pineapple was the Dome era.
