I think Mix played well. Our offensive attack looks promising. But the defense again is worrying me. We need to tighten up that defense. Patrick needs to review the tape and get these guys working their butts off.

It will take about 4 or 5 games before we can really see who we can rely on in the team. Going forward we were a breath of fresh air. Looked positive and with Khiry and TT have pace to cause trouble to any defence. When you think we scored 4 and Villa never got on the score sheet then that bodes well.

Mix (FFS why was I calling him Dix on the thread lol) and TMAC were excellent. However, Pirlo isn't the defensive midfielder to stop attacks. I think away from home leave Pirlo out. At home leave TMAC out. I know that sounds a bit OTT considering he was MOTM, but we need a better balance in there. I thought Lopez did well and would have him in our team next game. Also one of Brilliant or Hernandez needs to make way to see if Bravo can improve us in the back line. I would omit Hernandez. We can also be more secure at the back by keeping our RB deeper. Mattarita can give us the attacking impetus from the left, so no need for the RB to attack so much.

Overall very happy with 3 points and a winning start to the season.

Anyone has the Cityzens Code from the match? I didn't catch it. Or is not no longer valid at this point.

My scouting report of Brillant:

I didn't think much last year about how losing Taylor hurt us but the way he has looked this year it would have been a vastly different season had he been healthy. What a breath of fresh air having the pace of him and Shelton on the wings. Here's hoping the defense can get it together.

Tommy Mac - legend.

it's gonna be a long/exciting season if every game is like that.

Also, good to see that we are now maintaining something of a tradition of being unable to defend. Brillant, to use a Romney-esque critique was decidedly not-brilliant. Clearly at fault for a couple of goals/attempts and got nervous.

Khiry was decent but needs to know what to do with the ball at the end of those runs.

Overall, a good day out and can't wait for next week!!

Agree man. Frustrating when you see him trying to beat the defenders 1 on 2 or 1 on 3. That happened several times this afternoon. He's got to learn to get rid of it in those situations.

Choosing to play White over Iraola was a pragmatic decision, which is a good sign from PV. I think he knew that with their pace, the Fire would tear a backline of Iraola, Brillant and Hernandez apart. So while White didn't offer as much going forward, he was solid with the ball and stayed home on D.
Your analysis isn't off-base, but FYI Iraola was out with a hamstring issue.

If Pirlo's FK went in, I would have lost it. Already an improvement for him from last year for the fact he didn't sail any FKs 20 yards over the goal.
It's the ball. He's used to it now the MLS ball is a lot lighter then in Europe.

White scares me, Brilliant really scares me, Hernandez scares me.... So basically I see some room for Improvement next week

At the end of the season these 3 points are going to be massive

Mix was my MOTM. He was all over the field, disturbing the Fire midfield and getting back to help.

TMac was obviously very, very good in the attack. He's quite dangerous in the final third. I don't like when he has the ball in midfield so much, and all you can say about his defense is that he tries hard.

Matarrita looks to be very, very good, and not just in that typical LA, caution be damned, I'm attacking all out, all the time way. Obviously, his time with and in CR seems like it has afforded him a fair bit of maturity and decision making nous. I think he will be one that is hard to hold. I could see him having a couple of good years here and moving on to a Spanish club that competes for Europe.

Villa had a fairly non-descript, if not outright mdeiocre performance. I don't know why he can't seem to finish 1v1s. That is anhead scratcher. I also thought he was a little selfish around the box a time or two, but I think that's just part of the player he is.

Everyone gave 100%, and I don't know that I ever felt that way last year, so many compliments to PV.

Bravo looks to have something to give this year. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

Get Mena back, ASAP. This was the sort of game where he'd be a real difference maker.

Frank who? Not sure where he fits on the team right now.

Hernandez is still very bad.

Best thing about today, other than the win: no AJ90 to be seen. For that, I will always be grateful.

McNamara - 9 - Beautiful goal, wonderful work rate and an assist. Still working on decision making
Mix - 8 - provided wonderful cover for Pirlo and scored a goal
Shelton - 8 - held up play well, attacked the defenders and scored a nice goal. Decision making can still be better but there is great growth there from last year
Taylor - 8 - special speed and a good goal. Has one on one ability that only Villa has
Matarrita - 7 - very good getting up the field and very creative on the ball. Not
Sure if he is a LM or LB yet but the talent and confidence was there today. Much better than Vincent
Pirlo - 6 - pinged some good balls around the field and played a little D. Had a couple of nice free kicks but mostly a non-factor
Villa - 6 - I thought he pressed very well and acted as a decoy but didn't finish his chances and was only mediocre on the ball
Ethan White - 5 - Thought he played solidly, if not well. Wasn't an offensive threat from RB. Our best try defender today
Josh Saunders - 5 - Fantastic shot stopper. Couldn't distribute his way out of a paper bag. I honestly struggle to see him keeping his job if he can't distribute. At least one of those goals was on him.
Jason Hernandez - 2 - Awful. Just awful
Frederic Brillant - 2 - Worse debut than RJ Allen or Jefferson Mena. I hope this is a one time issue.

Every time he gets the ball I yell "do something!" and one time I got as far as "Do some-" before he fell on his back. So that was something.
