He's more partial to "If it's broke, take a long fucking time to fix it".

Does that hold up when defending a lead for 15 minutes? Because I agree with your philosophy in principle. But sometimes you need a quick, one-off fix just so you can limp back to the garage.I'd rather something be fixed permanently than rigged with patchwork - but that's just my philosophical take
I assume he asked why wasn't it green? Are you trying to jump on our theme of NY is Blue?
I really don't understand what some of you are on about... no one subs out their starting CBs without an injury. You just don't do it, particularly in an elimination cup match. Fullbacks, yes you can change them due to stamina, cards, etc., but you don't mess with the core of your back 4 particularly when you're holding a 2-0 lead. Bringing on Wingert for Allen, who was having a pretty good game but was on a yellow, would be one thing. I have to think that Kreis decided to give Wingert a run out for his 33rd birthday and was probably arrogantly thinking "we're up 2-0, Wingert can't possibly fuck this up". The problem is that Wingert has lost a step to begin with and was not up to the speed of that game. As others have noted in this thread, the Cosmos are quick going forward and have quite a bit of offensive talent. With that said, within minutes Wingert was exposed left, right and center. Then Kreis has to burn another sub to fix that fuck up.
Honestly, you guys can say that this is all retrospect but there were A LOT of us in the supporters section, the few of us that were actually watching the match closely, who were questioning these moves as they were happening. And yes, after seeing Wingert and Kwame come on, there were a few of us in the stands that immediately starting discussing which 5 guys we'd pick to take the PKs. I'm not calling for Kreis to be fired but it would be nice if he got his head out of his ass and saw these former RSL guys for what they are: washed up. And to someone else's point, it wasn't Kreis who put RSL together; it was Garth Lagerwey, the guy currently pulling the strings behind the scenes for the Sounders.
Irony:
We'd all be pretty happy if (1) Ballouchy finishes an easy in on goal opportunity or (2) Kwame makes contact on a fairly easy clearance.
We'd all complain a bit but be overall pretty happy if (3) Alvarez makes his PK during play or (4) Mullins makes his during shootout.
All of these should happen with 75-80% frequency.
That's how close we were to being happy and how close Kreis was to still being a good coach and how close Wingert, Alvarez, etc were to getting another 4 day reprieve from people calling for their heads.
YOU DON'T SUB OUT A HEALTHY CENTER BACK, UNLESS YOU ARE ON A CRACK BINGE!For those calling out Kreis for running out of subs and not being able to call on Villa for Extra Time I don't think he was ever going to be risked on that turf. If Lampard was here or DP 3 I don't think they would have seen the field either . You can criticize taking Poku out but I mostly don't blame Kreis. He can't control stuff like Mullins completely forgetting his shooting boots. He's horrifically inconsistent we need a new forward DP or not.
Don't you sub out your starting CB if he is getting tired and you want him fresh for the next match that the coach cares about? Yes you do! Right approach? That's debatable.YOU DON'T SUB OUT A HEALTHY CENTER BACK, UNLESS YOU ARE ON A CRACK BINGE!

That sub told me everything about where Kreis' head is at in comparing the USOC and the MLS seasonDon't you sub out your starting CB if he is getting tired and you want him fresh for the next match that the coach cares about? Yes you do! Right approach? That's debatable.
By that line of thinking, Kreis values Hernandez over Mix, Jacobson, Brovsky, Facey, Ballouchy and Mullins, all of whom ran way more than Hernandez on the night.Don't you sub out your starting CB if he is getting tired and you want him fresh for the next match that the coach cares about? Of those only Mix and Jacobson are probably guaranteed starters, and I'll argue that they have way more in the tank than the older more valuable Hernandez.By that line of thinking, Kreis values Hernandez over Mix, Jacobson, Brovsky, Facey, Ballouchy and Mullins, all of whom ran way more than Hernandez on the night.
