Superdraft 2015 Mega-thread

Is Messi draft eligible? I can't find anything saying he's not.

No, but someone I'm sure has a discovery claim on him.

In regards to Besler, you would have to pay him. I don't know if we can fit him under the cap. Don't the MLS Senior Signees make like 100k a year?

You almost have to draft a GA player with that slot because of the cap flexibility. You would be silly not to.

Besler did have a fantastic combine though.

A good article on last year's draft and how those players have fared.

I think it may temper a few expectations.
I agree with you. And every year, the draft gets worse as more and more of the better talents sign with either MLS academies or go straight to Europe.

Of all of our current US u20 team at the CONCACAF championships, there is 1, literally A SINGLE PLAYER, who is in the draft so far as I can tell. There are 4 kids on that team from Tijuana alone. For all of the talk about salary caps, MLS is ignoring its most readily available talent source - if not ignoring, underfunding at least.

The draft is not squat. Even the best available talent is foregoing it. If you're a good player, go play at Helsingsborg or some shit for a year and come back to pick your own team. The draft is like choosing among 30+ year olds as wives. Sure, you may get a gem, but you're way more likely to get someone with massive flaws or they wouldn't be in that situation to begin with.

Haha, what an analogy!

Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering how many players had managed to appear for clubs in England and Germany. I thought it was a lock they had to go through the draft.

I have read reports on the u20 but not seen much as it is clashing with the Asian Cup. There is only so much you can watch.

As an aside i was disappointed to find flaws meant the same in America as England. I was thinking the chest area and it would have been nice to get a wife with massive flaws.

Yeah don't expect much and like we have said many times, the Draft gets weaker all the time. I can't remember one Combine MVP ever amounting to anything. So I don't give the Combine performance much value either.

I'm still sticking with Cristian Roldan for pick #2 tomorrow.

Ives agrees:
