Tim Pernetti Out As Nycfc President

I'd rather them hire a guy who I don't have reason to be doubtful about his intentions. There are plenty of candidates out there without Manchester City on their CV who would be fantastic club presidents.

This club has done little to date to earn my trust, so I see a "yes man". Yes, I'd prefer someone without City on their resume.

I understand that and appreciate the honestly, in so aspects of it I agree but this guy is in we will give the benefit of the doubt and if he screws up we will nail him to a cross.

I think it's pretty clear that Pernetti's plan was never to be here long term. He had a task to get the club established in the NYC market, which I think he has done well. Pernetti was never going to be the guy to push back against CFG because of the Lampard fiasco and for that reason this COULD be a good move. I'm not saying Glick will push back but he is obviously respected within CFG and could be able to sway the other executives from time to time -- IF he is truly looking out for NYCFC's best interests which is his fiduciary duty as the president. On the surface I have no problem with this hiring. Now all 3 CFG clubs have their own CEO/president and if those roles are respected and upheld to the letter of the law then this should be an improvement going forward for NYCFC.

Well assuming Pernetti had this lined up at the beginning of the month the Lampard scenario was presumably irrelevant to him. Of course it was Reyna who put out the statement. Don't really see what the major deal is if he's simply accepted a position within a field closer to his core values. He's given almost 2 years of service there was never any statement that he intended to stay for the rest of his career. Conspiracy theories are boring and in the age of information overload do we really need them on top of everything else?

At worst Glick as the replacement is probably on a par with Pernetti. The encouraging view from others is that this is actually an improvement not just corporate suit for another corporate suit. MCFC obviously did a lot of research hiring him in the first place a few years ago since he didn't come from any major organisation. Also don't many of you see it as a positive sign that Glick has accepted this position? Its hardly being touted as a demotion within CFG is it? Unless he's a complete idiot he's taken on this role for very positive reasons. I stand by a previous statement that the Lampard issue will be seen as a schizophrenic episode in an otherwise sea of positivity. Glick isn't stupid and New York was chosen for a reason. Let that keep being the message to detractors and far more importantly those fans who are still unconvinced.

As for the president position lets have that title corrected. As for the term "president" I personally think it would be more suited to a legendary figure in the history of football. Whether its a day to day position or not having a huge name (Johan Cryuff perhaps or even Maradona if he wasn't more suited to the potential setup in Las Vegas) as president does gain some attention. Look at Cosmos still living off the Pele name though obviously to a far greater extent.

Still I guess its not hugely important what Glick's title is.

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you, franchise646 franchise646 . ;)

Really - it's not black helicopter stuff. This is something that happens pretty regularly at companies and in politics. Highly politically controversial example here, but in China, the PRC were encouraging/giving benefits to people from the Chinese coast to move to Tibet to drown out some of the dissent in that area.

With the facts I've got available, this seems like a similar sort of move, and it's one I'm uncomfortable with after the lies this club's fed to us to date.

My narrative is that the higher-ups at NYCFC were fighting the good fight against the higher-ups at MCFC. If that's not true, then I'm wrong. But from what I gather and from what I've heard, it's not terribly inaccurate, and this would be a savvy move from MCFC to resolve some of that tension.

I think you will find the differences in opinions between the suits is for you alarmingly small. I also think all are invested in the CFG project. What some here consider big issues for them are just bumps in the road. However, I do believe if Tom said not to do something it would have a great impact than if Tim says or said it. Anyway we will see. I just want to get playing and then we can see where we are in terms of playing staff. Melbourne are three years from challenging based on current progress.

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City FC is replacing its leader before playing its first game in Major League Soccer.
The expansion team said Thursday that Tim Pernetti will leave his job as chief business officer after its March 8 opener. NYCFC says Pernetti has been hired as president of multimedia for WME, IMG's college business.

Tom Glick will become NYCFC president Sunday. Glick is a former NBA executive who has worked for sister club Manchester City for the past two years.

NYCFC has been criticized after its parent company allowed star midfielder Frank Lampard to stay with Manchester City through the end of the Premier League season. NYCFC announced last summer that Lampard and David Villa would be its most well-known players for its inaugural season.

Pernetti spent four years as Rutgers' athletic director before he was forced to resign in April 2013 for his handling of a scandal involving basketball coach Mike Rice, who verbally abused players. Pernetti was hired to run NYCFC's business operations that September.

Glick has been chief commercial officer of Manchester City since 2012. An American, he worked for minor league baseball teams from 1989-04, moved to the NBA from 2004-05 as vice president of marketing and team operations and the New Jersey Nets as chief marketing officer from 2006-07. He was chief executive officer of the English soccer club Derby from 2008-12.

Glick will report to Ferran Soriano, NYCFC's managing director and chief executive of its parent, City Football Group, and of Manchester City.

NYCFC will play at Yankee Stadium while it seeks to build its own stadium. The Yankees are a minority owner.
Hey, has anyone seen the NYC FC commercials on the YES network yet? I never thought I'd see the day.
