"You just have to hang on for another four and a half years, and by the time you've been a season ticket holder for ten years you'll get some sort of early access to a seat at the new stadium!"

Seriously, though, for those of us who are Founding Members, the club had better be real real real kind to us regarding seats in the new stadium if we've had to have been season ticket holders for ten years, continuously, just to keep our place in line.
I want a giant ass brick.

I don't think it'll actually cost 500mil, I think it'll be up to 500 mil...
That leaves room for "what do we think they'll be doing with 500mil to build a stadium?" Which makes me hopeful for something much more in line with Minnesota's stadium than something crappy like Audi Field.

Hint: it will end up costing more than they budgeted. Guaranteed.

Okay. It's time for me to come clean with some things I've been hearing on the Stadium. These come variously from three people at firms that are consulting for NYCFC on different aspects of the project and one person high up at the Club. Two of the three consultants were people I spoke with 3 months ago or so. The other conversations, which provide most of the information, were in the last few weeks.
  • The Club believes it is "close" to announcing its planned location for a stadium. In this context "close" means by the end of the year, although I get the sense they are hoping it will be sooner than later.
  • It will then take about a year for permits and another 2-3 years for construction.
  • The location in mind is "near Yankee Stadium".
  • Size was variously reported as 30,000 and 25,000, expandable to 30,000.
  • Two different architecture firms have been retained to draw up competing site plans.
  • The club has retained a cost consulting firm and has reached out to banks on a preliminary basis to secure debt financing.
  • Some of the external consultants believe that the process has been slower than necessary because the Club has to deal with bureaucratic issues out of Abu Dhabi (e.g. time needed to get sign offs and financial commitments, etc.).
  • The Club has a set price in mind that it will not exceed for the stadium; separately, I heard a figure of $500 million.
Clearly, there is a lot of smoke around right now - probably more than any other time since the Club kicked off in 2015. That said, lots of things can kill a deal like this before it is ever announced. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Sounds positive but I'm not waiting until December 31st for an announcement. If they don't announce before renewals are over, I'm out. Enough dicking around...

oh, what I mean is they won't announce it as 500mil, but it'll end up being 500mil. I don' think it'll inflate past that, will it?
Whatever their budget is, it will go past it via change orders. No question about it.

$500m total project cost seems unrealistic to me. Land acquisition and preparation could easily exceed half that, and with a dollar being worth about .55c in NYC construction, the stadium itself once the site is prepared will be at a hefty pricetag.

Hopefully that $500m is the projected construction budget only, otherwise we may see a very unimpressive stadium.

Thanks for the info! I’m really curious who the second architecture firm is since Vinoly is widely expected to be the first.

And I can’t help but think about how tix renewal is one month away..... I expect darker smoke to materialize between now and then with the club banking on it being enough carrot to hold on to the meager STH left.
Populous
