"Belmont Park is a major thoroughbred horseracing facility first opened in 1905 and redeveloped from 1964-1968. The subject of this RFP is comprised of two parcels totaling approximately 36 acres, both currently vacant and underutilized parking lots. Site A contains a total of approximately 8 acres, bordered on the south by Hempstead Turnpike and adjacent to the Cross Island Parkway. Site B contains a total of approximately 28 acres and is located south of the Hempstead Turnpike. Respondents may also propose an alternative, which includes the sites and land adjacent to Site A, north of Hempstead Turnpike. Additional land adjacent to Site A included in respondents’ proposals shall total no more than 7 acres for a total of 15 acres including Site A. Respondents who wish to submit an alternative development proposal must also submit a proposal for the Sites."

Bolded bit gets it to 43, FWIW. And we've now both spend more time on this than it merited. :)
Speaking of Belmont:

I think he was talking about the current stadium:

Yup, was talking about the current stadium- and specifically talking about how you never know if NYCFC/city group would be looking to make it "bigger" or something like that which would make it look like West Ham's current stadium.

So was just saying, would be awesome as a SSS with specifically square dimensions that hug the pitch lol

The only worry I'd have is if they every wanted to build in room for the Jets to join them. But if you read back in this thread, you'll see 101 reasons why they Jets are stuck in that deal at the Meadowlands for the foreseeable future.

To give the full report w screen shots:

Personally, like Jim, I don’t believe the Isles deal is falling through. This is just an excuse to withhold info. Let’s hope it has more to do with bidding on WP than bidding on Belmont.

I very much enjoy his "highly unlikely" caveats there. Because you know there are people out there that will run with this tweet as proof that the deal is falling through and NYCFC is going to Belmont.

Is he looking to create news instead of report it (there’s nothing to report)?????? Negotiations for development of that magnitude do not get signed quickly - talking hundreds of millions being locked in and nobody signs on the dotted line before getting stuff they need thrown in.

I read it that he thought the excuse is bullshit and it’s 99.9999% a done deal. It was just a reason not to share the NYCFC proposal (which would include the stadium plans).

I’d bet that they don’t want to release the NYCFC bid, mainly because i think it was a “sham” to go through the motions of looking like they’re exploring all options even if not viable for their business plan, while also putting up “competition” for the Isles. But even if it was a legit entry, until the contract is signed, they need to keep the backup as an option, so hidden for now. And this guy should know he wasn’t going to get the answer yet.

opinon piece by newsday --- Katz would like to see a soccer stadium, and the New York City Football Club (partly owned by the New York Yankees) is looking for a home after losing a bid to build at Belmont Park.

For those who don't read the article here is the other comment regarding NYCFC

That could be a boon for Queens, which has lots of soccer fans, but it’s unclear whether the idea is politically palatable.
I'm not wholly familiar with NYC politics, but doesn't it basically come down to whatever the local counselor supports, she gets?

another article with some insight into willets points - Francisco Moya

Soccer stadium supporter

Make the Road New York hasn’t always found itself on the same page as Moya. Valdes says that in 2013, his organization was also grappling with the proposed expansion of the USFA Tennis Center on two thirds of an acre in Flushing Meadows Park, and Major League Soccer’s consideration of up to 13 acres in the park for a soccer stadium.

“As the first person to advocate for a soccer stadium in the borough of Queens, it’s no secret that I have always supported the idea. Just as I have for the last five years, I will continue to explore all avenues that could make Queens the home of soccer in New York City,” he wrote in an e–mail to City Limits. “However, at this time no discussions have been had with me regarding a soccer stadium in Willets Point. My priority is creating my community task force and begin to engage in a real way with all the stakeholders at the table. As we move forward into the next phase of planning for Willets Point, I’m sure there will be an appropriate time to discuss the future of a stadium.”

That doesn't sound very promising for NYCFC unless all stakeholders are keeping everything close to the vest.

1. We are actually going for a Bronx site.

2. You won't hear anything about a stadium until the club is ready to sell you a specific seat in the new stadium.
