2017 General MLS Transfer Rumors

That sucks. Could be one of those career-enders that is hard to recover from at his age. Then again, he's kind of a freak.

It actually might make it more likely he ends up in MLS, with other big suitors falling away.
Makes sense to me. Gives him closer to a year to recover. Now does it scare off the clubs? No idea. LAFC can afford to take a year long flier, though. If nothing else, the dude would still be worth having on as a late sub. He's the billionaire's Alan Gordon.

Makes more sense to sign him now. Was the thought that they would wait until next Summer? Man U are signing Griezman this summer anyway. Sign Zlatan this summer and let him do rehab in Germany like Kobe Bryant...

It would seem more likely to me that he does come to MLS now as being available that late into a European season, at that age, coming off of that injury, will likely be too risky for any European club.

So will LAFC get Chicharito and Ibra both?

LAFC - Chicharito, Ibra, and Honda
LAG - Gio Dos Santos, Jonathan Dos Santos, and Alessandrini

That'll set ratings records in both the US and Mexico.
Isn't Honda going to Seattle in the summer? Granted I haven't heard much noise on this in a long while, but I thought that was pretty much set.

If the ink isn't dry, it's not set. All we have are a lot of rumors. He could sign a pre-contract, but he hasn't. We'll see what happens.

Headline hot-take. He basically says Germany and Bayern are better than the Fire, by a huge margin. Also of note, fire is hot and water is wet.
He also eviscerates his team mates, their ability to see opportunities for execution and, on the miraculous occasion that they recognize said opportunity, their ability to womp womp execute. All of this in a tone that belies much suffering. This is practically charity for him. Oh, except MLS has a lot of potential.

FWIW, his assessment isn't entirely unsympathetic. I appreciate the candor.

Yeah, this was more of what was so bad about it. I completely understand that Bayern is better than the Fire, and Bundesliga is better than MLS, but he specifically calls out frustrations with teammates and coaches and their quality.

ETA: I like Schweini, and think part of this may have him just being too candid. But things like this don't help the league. Pirlo made some statements a week ago that weren't nearly as bad as this and people here were fuming (and for the record, I did agree that his comments were disappointing for our league we are trying to grow).

Not a rumor...

$360K salary on the MLS waiver wire
Wait, so they're cutting a guy in the hope that somebody offers him a contract, even on for min salary with RB picking up the rest for the year, just to clear a space on their roster? They're going to eat a big chunk of his salary no matter what, right? Because who would offer to take on his entire $360k?

What am I missing here? Are there rumors of RB picking up somebody else out of contract? They can't fill that spot for a month otherwise.

Right, I've been looking through the MLS roster rules...

Clubs may waive players based on performance at any time during the MLS season. A club may waive a Semi-Guaranteed Player at any time during the regular season until 48-hours prior to the Contract Guarantee Date. A club may waived a Guaranteed or Semi-Guaranteed Player after the Contract Guarantee Date only with League approval. Clubs may not waive a player between the Roster Freeze Date and MLS Cup.

Semi-Guaranteed Players waived on or after the Contract Guarantee Date of any League year and Guaranteed Players waived anytime, and who clear waivers (i.e., not picked up by another club), will continue to have their Salary Budget Charge count against the Club Salary Budget. The club waiving the player will not receive a replacement player except through the Discovery Process.

So, I guess if no club picks him up, the Red Bulls will have his salary and likely his international spot still on their books. Though, I don't know how a recall of the loan early would apply.
