2017 Roster Discussion

If badji does come and is a dp I might just lose it.... this would be absolutely terrible and desperate. He is a tam level guy which id be okay with not a dp

i guess but is it really a good way of seeing a player? i mean you said MLS are underrated and euro overrated so it makes it iffy at best.

Sometimes it's all we have.

Doesn't anyone have Football Manager around here? I should probably get that, I hear it's accurate enough that many clubs around the world use it as a preliminary scouting tool.

Regardless of how much we are paying him, the couple of news breaks last few days definitely painted us as desperate. We aren't approaching transfer windows with a scalpel, but a shotgun.

I count us having 9 international spots and currently based on all rumors and signings 12 international players...

Brillant, Callens, Camargo, Chanot, Harrison, Johansen, Matarrita, Pirlo, Ring, Villa, and now Badji and Herrara

We need three spots...

Don't understand why players wouldn't want to come player for Patrick vieira in NYC at dp wages in a vastly growing league. You'd think people would jump at that.

I do. Will take a look at some of these guys when I get home tonight. I have found it has some of the same flaws though. For example, as of the beginning of last year, it rated Stiven Mendoza as pretty comparable to Fabian Castillo. I like to look because, as you said, we have so little insight into all of these guys, but it is a limited resource as well.

Because once you're in Europe, anywhere else seems like a step back. And it's understandable.

Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Atlanta are the model franchises right now. I think Toronto struck lightning with Gio and made a good move for two of the best Americans in the world, but that's not a replicable strategy. Other than Mata, we have really struggled with scouting and recruitment in Latin America.

9 "officially"

There was last year's mystery spot that is still unaccounted for so we may have 10.

To echo what a few others have already said, its not really a good way of seeing a player, but it may provide a little bit of insight. One of those "for whatever its worth" kind of things.

Also, I enjoy playing with NYCFC on FIFA, so I also like seeing how these moves improve there, haha.

More like throwing mud on a wall and seeing what sticks.

I'm all for Badji as a DP. As long as DP stands for Don't Please. I'm ok with a much better than Mikey, better than Bravo, depth and role player salary for the guy. But from what little we know (other than a million dollar plus value on TM) he doesn't strike me as a guy playing great soccer screaming difference maker and warranting real DP $$. The Ring endorsements seem more promising. But then again, like with most of the new guys, I don't have a great basis to independently judge.

I'd also like to add in my opinion, that unlike all the other major sports, soccer is truly a global game and FIFA helps us get an idea of what type of player we are getting. I don't need to know that X NBA player is an 82 with 93 3 point shooting because the NBA is so easily accessible. Conversely, the 2.Bundesliga, Championship, or even top divisions like Belgian or Portuguese leagues get little to zero coverage here, but still have quality so FIFA gives us more of a glimpse.

In addition to this, sites like sofifa allow fans that actually follow the players/teams to be able to comment on their pages with real info. That's why I'm skeptical of Badji, but pumped about Ring, even though Ring is lower rated

they want a DM and thats what they are going for....its not the top of the line since a good one may not come until summer and by then it may be too late for the year.
