2017 Roster Discussion

Aurelien Collin is out of contract with RBNJ but not a free agent, not enough years with MLS. Would take him if the price was right. He was pretty impactful for them

i still think dude is red card waiting to happen.

He was surprisingly good this year. Jesse Marsch is a very good manager.

I don't like the dude and would hate to see him in an NYCFC kit. I think our problem back there is depth, not starters. I'm very comfortable starting Brillant/Chanot. The question is around Matarrita learning to play LB instead of LWB/LM and whether or not RJ Allen is an intelligent/quality player out on the right side or if he is a Swiss Army knife. I tend to think if you upgrade the RB position and teach Matarrita how to defend consistently, we're just fine. Go get a quality RB this offseason. We'll be fine.

So we need two midfield positions now (subject to Harrison not moving to Midfield):

Have we heard anything about Harrison moving to midfield more? Seems like a natural fit to me at CAM kinda like Pulisic

Going to free up a shit pod of cap space this off season. Add to that the CCL spot if we get it and we have a lot to play with. Can argue it might make sense to not do a DP and sign multiple mid/high level players under DP salary. Wonder how that would work.

Use SKC as your model to analyze- they have, or used to have, a team full of the $150-300k players that was super solid top to bottom. Recently they've been adding sub$1M DPs/TAM players (some strictly via pay raises) so I don't know how that affected their structure.

Nothing more than the initial references to where the team sees him longterm. His move may likely be predicated on whom we can get and he shifts accordingly.

With two starting midfielders having left NYCFC, as the roster currently stands, will Mix Diskerud get out of the doghouse?

Put another way, is anyone surprised that we have announced the departure of two CMs, and neither of them is Mix? It's possible that we have to wait until next month to use our one time contract buyout, but it still comes off as surprising.

Getting a good CDM, who is both good enough defensively to control that space above the CBs and a strong enough passer to run the build up from the back is now priority #1. Bravo did not show the passing ability, but maybe they think he can get there.

Of course, if we make CCL, we will need to stockpile additional players for depth given the extra midweek games and travel. I don't think using the extra GAM to improve the Starting XI is a prudent approach.

This could be a more important move than Lampard. The offense and defense revolved around him.

1) Do we change formations to a 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3?
2) Does Chanot stay as a CB?
3) Does this change our strategy of DP (Lampard) and GAM (Mix) expenditures?

CCL wouldn't start for us until 14 months from now I believe? CCL is in the Group stage at the moment, even though the MLS season is almost over. We wouldn't start, I don't, think, until 2018.
