2017 Roster Discussion

Go get Torres and partner him with Villa. Keep Bravo. Get another CM hopefully with Mix's savings.

Play a 4-3-1-2 like they did at Juventus for the next year. Pair Pirlo with Bravo and another ball control CM (not McNamara). Play Harrison behind Villa and Torres.

Or go get a CAM with you DP - Honda - and see if Harrison can play deeper?

This news about Andoni hurts my heart. He was worth many times his salary in calmness, quality and experience, and his willingness to change positions saved our season.

We can get another player, but we won't find a replacement. Great player for us.

Not sure about Bravo it all depends on his transfer fee (i think it was 1 million) which is too much . If they can work out a fee for 300k then I would keep him,

Contract runs out in June. I don't know if Celta would cancel the loan, but I would imagine he is joining midway through the year. I'm in on this.

That's fair. I happen to agree. If he's healthy though?
I am definitely not the go to guy on players overseas, but I've actually heard of him, and he's always been on the cusp of the Italian team, so those things sound good. Looks like a Stu Holden knee history there though.

Right now, we're locked into about $3.2 Million of cap hit next year, assuming no Diskerud, no loanees and Harrison is still a GA.

Do we need a CDM? We lost Lampard at CAM and Iraola at CDM. Why not try to pick up two high work rate box to box CMs to flank Pirlo with? Isn't that the more traditional 4-3-3 set up with Pirlo? Credit to PV for finding a way to make it work with the Iraola/Pirlo partnership but it was a bit awkward a times and you could argue teams figured out that if they pressed the back line and took both Iraola and Pirlo away we had no plan B.

Two CMs with reasonable defensive work rates and high positional IQ would give Pirlo two options to move the ball through the midfield. They can help cover when Mata goes forward, and it frees up our wings to attack and not worry so much about tracking back. Without needing as much defensive help from the wings Villa could slide to LW if we found a DP CF or we could sign an attack minded DP winger and not worry about defensive issues. If we find the right players it will essentially let us shift to a more natural 4-3-3 set up and we wont have to do all the cover up stuff we did this season like playing a CB at RB, having our LW and RW track way back on D, etc.

Fantastic post. I think the issue is that the normal 4-3-3 has one holding mid and two CMs. Pirlo isn't a holding Mid, so you need one holding player to pair with him and another to attack.

Just found this on twitter, I don't trust it

as a non DP? mix out? ....i cant remember seeing him play much because of those exact injuries.

while true...its just that this team loses the ball way too much for my liking and not everyone tracks back as quickly so we get exposed badly at times...that is why i wanted a CDM....i always like that position any way

Rossi makes about $1.8 Million currently. I guess you could fit him in as a non DP if he joins in July and are only responsible for $900k in wages? You could pay down the 900k to below the DP level and still have money for a DP.

Then Pirlo falls off in 2017 and his salary hits the full cap. That could theoretically work.
