2017 Roster Discussion

If there is a Matarrita out there, there must be a right footed version in Central or South America.

In fact, I would be surprised if the CFG scouting network hasn't uncovered that player already. We have an incredible advantage. How many other teams in MLS could have found a Chanot, Brillant, Matarrita or Iraola? Maybe the Galaxy?

You forgot Mendoza, Alverz, Martinez, Nemec, and Mena. I agree we have hand more hits than misses and it does seem like we have a bit of an advantage but CFG scouting doesn't seem to be exempt from considerable strike outs.

True but we'll still have to pay chicago $50k Gam for their discovery rights.

Alverez was a friend of Villa's. That's kinda a wash since it made him happy.

Also, didn't at least one of Fred and Max approach us?

I disagree with your count, also. What about the guy who was only fit every 10th game so he could kick it out of the stadium. Oh yeah - Calle.

Mendoza - Win
Alvarez - Win (for Villa)
Martinez - TBD
Nemec - Fail
Mena - Fail

You're not going to bat 1,000. I'll take our guys being right 75% of the time.

My bad I should have been more specific, I was talking about A. Mendoza, the CB from last year and as Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan pointed out I also missed Calle. So that leaves us with:

Chanot - Win
Brillant - Win
S. Mendoza - Win
Matarrita - Win
Iraola - Win
Alvarez - Win (for Villa)
Martinez - TBD, but at his salary it's looking like a Fail
Nemec - Fail
Mena - Fail
Calle - Fail
Andres Mendoza - Fail

Over all 75% is a bit of a stretch, but anything better than 50% seems reasonable.

I would not put Mena as a FAIL. He's had some bad games and he's also effectively won us some games by shutting down opposing forwards single-handed.

I was having a discussion with someone about Mena this weekend. I think he's a solid player, and it showed under Kreis at times. However for our system right now I don't think he fits in and will likely be shipped out.

Partially agree. He doesn't fit perfectly, but he's had his place and showed well enough to win us points. But for his salary he probably will be shipped out after the season.

Looking back at the game (hindsight is wonderful!), I really wish he'd have been playing in the defense with Brillant/Chanot and let Iraola play in the midfield next to Bravo so that at least one of the guys could hold the ball and distribute to the forwards as a link. I mean, the one really great thing about Mena is that he can go 1v1 with a top forward and take them out of the game - Altidore wouldn't have gotten any service with Mena on him.

So Lampards agent was at the game and in locker room according to NYCFCfan NYCFCfan and now we are hearing that he has been offered a fast track by the FA into coaching. He gone
Wasn't in the locker room, just outside. Lampard himself was quick to get out after the game and didn't talk to the media afterwards. My guess would be he's gone after this season.

Are we sure Mix is leaving? He's looking at potential investments right now.
Then again if his contract is guaranteed and they have to pay him out at the end of the year he'd definitely have some money to invest.

Guaranteed no-trade, no-waive contract. If NYCFC want to release/waive him, it's a multi-million dollar buyout. (From what I'm told).

That's fair, to me it depends if you are including salary into the eval or not. Pure skills I agree he's not a fail, accounting for what he has done and his salary things start to get a bit more debatable.

He has still been more productive than Hernandez at the same salary.

Interesting on Lampard. I know there has been a clamor to get more of these guys immediately involved - Lampard, Gerrard two of the guys specifically mentioned by Rodney Marsh.

Do we have any credible info on how long his contact is? I haven't found anything.
