Could we eventually lose Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto?
according to twitter/ reddit chatter if they do its gonna be a bunch of lawsuits against Concacaf. since value of team drops and other legalities/ contracts affected by the decision. so it may not be "worth" going thru it.
however, out of the three MLS teams the only one i think may even consider it is montreal since the owner recently said the team losing lots of money and not doing that well.
EDIT: it all hinges on outcome of this decision, if ottowa forced to go to CPL, it may give him more reason to push for the three MLS teams to join CPL.
The Athletic article says this could affect the Canadian MLS teams because the CPL bills itself as Tier 1. But if that's so why can't Ottawa play in the the USL In Tier 2?

eh, to me Vancouver was always the third wheel in the relationship. It is part of the rivaly but to me it never was promoted that way. At least i never really noticed all the hype and promos whenever vancouver went against portland or seattle. It was always about portland v seattle
i think its due to the history or Ottowa with CPL. they kinda were flip flopping on wanting to join CPL. in the end they said no thanks and i think its more getting back at them. apparently the concacaf president had ties to CPL before moving on to concacaf, so in a way flexing the muscle.
i think this is why some say it wont happen. all the legal battles occurring, as MLS, the teams themselves losing value and hindering their development.
in the end i think what will happen is Ottawa gets screwed and the rest MLS canadaian teams get "grandfathered" into MLS like welsh teams in premier league and other parts of the english pyramid.

I've been to a Caps at Sounders game and it was definitely a huge rivalry.
ah i see......so portland vs seattle is more in classico level.....and vancouver games are local derbies level. like a barcelona vs espanyol ....or real madrid vs atletico

The problem here isn’t so much the fact that they are told they can’t be in USL, it’s the fact that they have been notified without being given time to join CPL.
see a little more digging brings a few more points:
CONCACAF president had a role in the CPL before moving to concacaf
IIRC Ottawa was supposed to join CPL when it launched and allowed by CSA to stay in USL for two years or so.
But now Ottawa said no fuck that ( i think its Julian de Guzman really, apparently dude doesnt like CPL idea and shits on it) so i think its retaliation for that.
the weird thing is that CSA and USSF both are ok with Ottawa being in USL but the higher power said no
They also had a contract with the USL that requires 6 months notice if they leave for the CPL. The season starts in 3 months. Preseason starts in 40 days. Ottowa has sold 1,500 tickets, and has 12 players under contract, all based on a USL season and schedule. There are 30+ other teams in the league who whose schedule will be disrupted.
lol oh yea the USL president is pissed. I think i read that yesterday the league already sent out schedule draft to teams this week. so now it all goes to the trash.

How are they able to do this?
They already have 3 DPs - Alessandrini and the brothers Dos Santos. Gio makes $6 million, Jonathan $2 million and Alessandrini makes around $1.8 million. All of those are above the TAM cap of $1.5 million (and none include the effect of any transfer fees). Perhaps this is a sign that the TAM cap is indeed rising?
ETA: The Galaxy paid transfer fees for both Jonathan Dos Santos and Alessandrini, so I don't think either could fit under a $2 million cap for TAM.

Damn Colorado, I can see what you're trying to do but... flipping Rowe for Rubio + 200k GAM and 100k TAM is a bit too much, don't you think?
Honestly to me the winner here was definitely SKC. However, Colorado is clearly trying to pull something this offseason, but I can see it turning into OC's luck from last year.

SKC is the winner in that series of transactions. $300K of AM and a quality American player in Rowe.
I can see Rubio doing well in Colorado if they bring in some reinforcements in their midfield (and aging goalkeeper that they'll never admit can't play anymore)
He may do well but Colorado is a mess. SKC gets stronger raising their collective floor level of talent. Vermes has a plan that he executes extremely well by bringing in high-floor level players and collecting/stocking AM in trades.
As an NYCFC fan I am envious of SKC's consistency. Consistent coach, consistent playing system, consistent team building principles. Red Bulls and SKC success make a very strong case that consistency matters at times more than budget. Regardless of our budget and the differing levels of competency of our coaches I don't think constantly needing to rotate personal to fit new systems brought by each new coach is sustainable in a capped league. Fans just accept it as the norm because we are all used to it with the top flight teams in Europe, new coach means new system and roster turn over. That doesn't work in the MLS because the roster building rules are too complicated and rigid. It took years to move from the Kries diamond personnel to a PV cut in wingers 4-3-3. Now there's speculations that we need different wingers and outside backs to play the Dome way. It sounds overly constricting but I honestly think we'd be better off if the "city way" meant a set formation and approach rather than this loose philosophy of playing pretty passing soccer. If city doesn't want to do it NYCFC should consider it just for themselves, choose an approach and stick to it. Get players that fit, coaches willing to stick with it and play it in all levels of the organization from the academy to the Sr. team.
