2018 Roster Discussion

The guy makes $250k. Why is he "overpaid?"

I assume Villa and Maxi are overpaid then too.

I was just hoping that bringing someone in on that kind of money implied more about his ability. Think what a difference it could make for the team if we had a third Callens/Chanot-calibre CB who could slot straight in, no questions asked.

As it is, he's currently sat behind a guy making $65k. SoupInNYC SoupInNYC makes some good points about how he's been unlucky not to get a shot so far. But now both Hountondji and Ibeagha are fit, why is there still any doubt? Did we get it really right on Ibeagha, or really wrong on Hountondji? Whichever answer you give, I'm not sure we've come away with the depth that kind of money should be buying you.

I don't see how we can say we got it really wrong on Hountondji. Once all players are signed, salaries are thrown out the door. Ibeagha has earned his minutes. We have been calling on this board for JLew because he earned his. We aren't calling for more Wallace because he's paid more.

Perhaps when we're at the end of the season, and Ibeagha has maintained his level of play, we re-evaluate and say, hey, we don't need to be paying $200k to Houndtondji because we got a great 3rd CB in Ibeagha who is cheaper

I get it. He's overpaid relative to Ineagha. But he makes half of what Callens makes. Half of what Chanot makes. Fair to say we should expect half the production?

What if he's good but Ineagha is just better and a steal on his salary

He makes more than what Callens made last season. I'm not saying he's a failure if he isn't better than 2017 Callens. But for $200k, shouldn't we expect his ceiling to be higher than Ibeagha?

Specially when he sees that Berget (The worst player on the team) is making 816K .

Yikes, Berget is a horrible signing for that contract hahaha. Grossly overpaying for a "European" player. Houtondji didn't even play for a mid-bottom of the table Ligue 2 team, but gets paid 260K. We could pick up Aaron Long and Tim Parker and still save 75K.

Interesting rumor from a big soccer poster that apparently we pushed hard to get Alfredo Morales in, but he rejected our overtures.

He’s leaving Ingolstadt, and I expect he’ll be back on a BL team next year.

He would have been a really good signing.

That's funny. The Peruvian national team also went hard after him about 3 or 4 years ago (his dad is Peruvian) before he had any caps with the USMNT, and he also rejected our overtures. :)
