2018 Roster Discussion

Hmm, interesting that mlssoccer.com is not listing them but nycfc.com still is

Yes and in part because I had always figured the two sites just pulled from the same database of information.

Might need to check in with my buddy who works at BAM, which is the company that does the webpages and streaming media for MLS (among many others). He's a big fan of the Club, FWIW.

Checked again today and Chanot and Villa are both listed again as international players. I’m thinking someone saw the rumblings on here or Twitter and changed it back before the official announcement.

Don’t think BAM runs the MLS website. I know each club runs their own so I think someone from MLS Digital just clicks the boxes manually for international or Designsted Player.

Yeah, just checked again and saw they now both have those tags back.

I wonder if those were the two supposed to be getting their green cards and the MLS site jumped the gun a bit.

At least that's what I'm hoping, considering we're a couple weeks out from the start of the season and needing a couple international spots, with another one needed potentially (Ofori)

Did I just miss him, or was Berget no where to be found on the Insta-stories and training video from today?

Feel like he is pretty easy to pick out with his beard

It certainly seems like all the team websites work off the same template, albeit with some customization. Not actually sure whether BAM does MLS, but I know it does MLS Live.

BTW, my buddy says he thinks they will have the condensed games.

Makes sense -- Not a lot of depth in CB on the roster, and also makes sense this would be an American because of how many international players we already have.

How badly we need this depends on how good Hountondji turns out to be and whether he can play both sides. We've got Sweat and Sands for emergency backup, so unless there's a long-term injury or a busy international break we could probably just add a reserve roster CB and call it a day.

Meanwhile we're still waiting on a third starting-caliber CM....

There's two questions here: Who is the player and what are we sending in return?

The first name that comes to mind is Tim Parker of Vancouver. That being said Goff is reporting of trade talks between Red Bulls and Vancouver for Parker.

So who does that leave? Hedges, Opara, Parkhurst, Marshall, Besler, Moor, Birnbaum.

Too old or too highly valued by their current team.

Maybe Maund of Vancouver or Glaad of RSL. Also floating Christian Dean of Chicago. Miles Robinson of Atlanta would be a name out of left field.

In return for a backup, young American CB for this team? McNamara would be too much. Maybe some GAM/TAM but we need to trade for international roster spots even if Chanot and Villa get their green cards with Ofori coming in, hopefully.

You out yer damn mind.

Snatch their hand off if it’s Glaad or Parker.

ETA: or Maund for that matter.

ETA 2: front office screwed up. Last year, Ucubed was a tradeable asset because not everyone was into him sucking yet. Now, he’s just a known liability.

Maybe a young project like a Kortne Ford (Rapids) type who PV thinks he can turn into an asset. Think he may be a homegrown though. Probably just some allo trade I would think.
