The thing that's troubling me is if this is supposed to be a Stertzer like signing why not just sign Ibeagha?
Maybe that was the plan but he hasn't impressed in training camp?

Guess that permit just took awhile. Agent says an announcement should be made in a day or two.
I would think that we now clearly have the best DM rotation in the league. We get two of Ring, Yangel and the Scrooge every game.https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomeP...ay-to-complete-transfer-from-Stuttgart-627885

I've never seen a drawn out transfer rumor where all of the updates were just the player's agent talking to his home country press, with no news from reporters connected to the buying or selling club. I get why it's happening here but man MLS is weird.
Part of the problem is that no one really covers NYCFC from a non-affiliated publication. We have some of the worst media coverage in the entire league. The NY Post guy is nice, but he isn't breaking any news, he's just writing up game recaps and press releases.
Right. That's mostly a function of the small market for MLS news, but the league doesn't do itself any favors with its approach to PR. Instead of treating the Post like an outlet for distributing press releases, NYCFC should be begging Kyle Schnitzer to talk to whoever he wants to generate interesting stories.
It's also possible that's all the NY Post editors want. Maybe the team is asking Schnitzer to write more interesting stories, but the Post doesn't want them? They did that behind-the-scenes piece last year which was great, but maybe the readership on it wasn't enough to justify more.
Could be, but if that were the case the team could drum up interest elsewhere. MLS's official channels have a huge following but mostly comment on the same public information we all have. There are a bunch of podcasts dedicated to NYCFC, but how often do they break news? There's local TV and sports radio and blogs. As for newspaper reporters, they'll tweet juicy stuff even if their editors aren't interested. Why doesn't MLS have Woj bombs? Hell, why doesn't it have TMZ scandals or Twitter beefs? That might get soccer some attention.
It all comes back to a culture of message control, which feels like it has a lot to do with the league's structure. There are no colorful owners like Jerry Jones or Mark Cuban or even a George Steinbrenner. The players stay on script and the agents don't spread rumors, I assume because league interests are in lockstep and there's no incentive to play the press. And there are no reporters hanging around the clubhouse, building personal relationships that would produce good stories and bring the players and coaches to life. The league's whole public output is sanitized and marketing-departmentish, and I think our fan experience is worse for it.
Maybe Merritt? Although the fact I mention him proves your point. It all comes back to a culture of message control, which feels like it has a lot to do with the league's structure. There are no colorful owners like Jerry Jones or Mark Cuban or even a George Steinbrenner.
Has he slid into his DMs?FWIW, Patricof follows Tim Parker on Twitter. Dunno how to see how recently he followed him, however...
He also follows me on twitter and I can confirm that I am not going to be signed by NYCFC.FWIW, Patricof follows Tim Parker on Twitter. Dunno how to see how recently he followed him, however...
Tactically, you need a someone that can slot in at RB off the bench in case of an injury. With Ofori also being left-footed, we now have a bunch that can play LB (Mata, Sweat, Awuah, Ofori, Wallace) but only two that can play RB (Tinnerhold, Abdul-Salaam).So here's my 18 as of now (assuming Ofori, just 18 players, not putting out an 11)...
GK: Johnson, Stuver
DEF: Tinnerholm, Chanot, Callens, Sweat, Matarrita, Hountondji
MID: Moralez, Herrera, Ring, Ofori
FWD: Villa, Berget, Lewis, Wallace, Medina, Tajouri
Bubble: Abdul-Salaam, McNamara
Next: Sands, Awuah
Then: Caldwell, Rawls
- I'd rate Sweat higher than Abdul-Salaam based on his 2017 performance. And Sweat can fill in as an emergency CB option.
- Medina can fill into midfield to replace Maxi as a 10 if needed.
- Ring and Ofori are like for like players. Herrera is our only box to box guy.
