2021 Roster Discussion

How does that compare to those other low-transfer teams? What's the aggregate I/O? I wonder if we can see that too, as well as # of dp slots open. Too lazy to do the work myself but MumonA MumonA if you find yourself bored and with some more time, wonder if you could compile this?
Besides the work, the problem is it requires too much judgment as to what constitutes a significant outgoing player. And for one item that does not require a judgment call, DP slots, though you would expect an easy central reference for that, I don't think there is one.

I think the over/under for a new DP announcement before April 17th is 0.5. And I’m not entirely sure that’s a bad thing.

The later starting date for the season is only one month before most European seasons end.

If a player is keen to join but won’t play for two months, is it more realistic both from a player’s POV and a financial POV to wait until the end of May for these transactions to occur.

The season is going to be somewhat compacted, though. There might be a pause in June for the internationals, plus we're starting six weeks late and only ending 4 weeks later than normal. I would think we're going to see lots of weekday games.

Agreed. With the late season start the cost of deferring is lower than normal. And the current window does not close until June 1, so it would be possible to get someone signed after the European leagues finish and before the window closes with quick work, even if a player might want to take a few weeks off before joining. Then the summer window opens its usual time, this year on July 7.

Reddit below (but not sure of the timing given that I thought he is more definitively going to Palmeiras):

According to reports out of Argentina and Brazil, Toronto FC, a New York team (assuming it’s NYCFC) and Minnesota United have all enquired about River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borre. The 25-year-old Colombian international has 24 goals in 71 appearances for River Plate since 2017. Borre also has interest from Palmeiras in Brazil.

Very interesting. Weren't some of the rumors that Palmeiras was targeting Taty if they couldn't get Borre?

Would be kinda funny if we ended up loaning out Taty because we signed a striker that another team wanted and their backup plan was Taty.

Yes, exactly. I think Fantazma Fantazma has been best on top of this maybe.

Yeap. This is what I’m thinking. Could be a scenario where we have contracts with folks with expiring deals that join “June 1” and finish out their seasons in mid May.

i just say what i see on twitter  .

it seems tomorrow he decides on taking palmeiras offer or no. but apparently the feel is that he wont go to brazil. His contract ends in June so in a way it "makes sense" for nycfc to try and get him, if rumors are true.

it would be wild if palmeiras gets taty and we get the target palmeiras want instead.

Fanatik is credited as the source, which would be this article:
I've run the story through various translation apps, but nothing produces the sequence of subject: NYCFC + verb: submitted (an offer).
What the article does say -- again, according to the auto-translators -- is that Florin Tanase's agent hopes to have an offer of 3.5 million to 4 million euros to present to team owner Gigi Becali ... who just happens to be the agent's cousin.

"It all depends on the value of the offer I can bring to Gigi Becali. And, of course, if Gigi agrees. I think it can be about 3.5 - 4 million euros and then all parties can be satisfied," the agent tells Fanatik.

While the agent says, "I can't say the name of a team at this moment," Fanatik names NYCFC as the interested team.

So the $4.8 million is converted from the 4 million euros -- the high end of the range and the headline number. And NYCFC hasn't submitted anything.

Was something honestly just lost in translation? Mere sloppiness or an attempt to stir things up on a quiet Wednesday evening? Who knows.

Does anyone follow MLS Transfer Zone? What's his track record? A junior at Ohio State University, Brazilian and a fan of Columbus Crew, judging from his bio. He has about 100 posts since the beginning of the year, 95 of which are retweets. He's not above retweeting his own posts from his Crew account and doesn't take himself or his credibility too seriously.

seems like the guy took the article and added to it to make the tweet more interesting than "a NY club is very interested..."

There's some confusion from Kristian Dyer that we're signing a different Joao Rojas, but that other player is 31 years old and I assume it makes a lot more sense that we're signing the 23-year-old.

Here's the transfermarket page for the 23-year-old. Doesn't appear to be a super-impressive player based on his stats, and I cant imagine we'd be signing him as a young money or DP player. Probably a depth piece.
