I love all the fearmongering.

These guys just announced a stupid-sum brand new stadium in NY, they put a shit-ton of effort for YEARS to get this sort of thing done, in one of the hardest construction landscapes in the world. They just won MLS Cup exactly a year ago, and we had a really great run again this year. We've seen conversations with the head saying how he has visions to make NYC a soccer capital. We brought in some high-quality talent, some big-name, big-money signings from brazil.

And yet now we're talking about Santi/Acevedo going to Brazil = the end for NYCFC. Seriously? Come on guys!

Agreed wholeheartedly. After the last two seasons we've had -- hell, the last seven seasons we've had -- I trust our front office. As fans we'd rather have incoming players announced before outgoing players are announced, but our front office knows what it's doing. We will likely have one of the best rosters in MLS once again this season, as we have for the last 3 or 4 seasons.

Before I flipped over to page 10, I almost posted the same exact thing.

The team has clearly established itself as a team in the top echelon of the league from a sporting perspective. I trust CFG to continue to support the club as we are accustomed to for the majority of our existence.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure how the math works, but man, would I love to have James back.

as much as I would love to have him back, i'm not sure how he would feel about it. his coming back would mean his loan was kind of a failure. then again, he's still young and with a solid year or two of actual minutes in MLS, maybe he gets an even better transfer somewhere else.

I think coming back to start might not be too bad. He played a full 90 five times for Rangers last season, a full half four times. He rode the bench three times and once he wasn't in the squad at all. In his last five games for them he went 90' twice, was subbed off at 79' once and played the entire second half twice.

So, he was getting fairly decent minutes, especially late in the season. But getting inked into our XI for a full MLS campaign might be good for him.

On the other hand, it looks like Rangers rate him, so if they come with a nice contract offer hey, good for him. I freely admit I'm just being selfish. LOL

Well this would pretty much blow up our offseason if it's true.

"Maxi Moralez, one step away from returning to Racing. The footballer is already very advanced with the institution that saw him born. * ⃣ Although he has a renewal clause until 2023 at NYFC, he is not going to execute it and is waiting to sign the settlement. With

Imagine we lost Maxi, Acevedo, Santi, Sean and Callens 😂

Maxi, Sean, and Callens might be our three most important players. Santi probably in the top 5. We've historically been great at recruitment, but this would become an incredibly important offseason for recruitment.
And Nick Cushing signs to be the head coach. If we possibly don’t make the playoffs this year, it may likely be more the fault of Lee and CFG than Cushing. You can only work with what you have.

The Maxi news is crazy. The club activated the option, can he decline it? I think there would have to be a mutual agreement to part ways or we get a transfer fee…

Yeah, I imagine it would have to be a transfer fee. He's under contract -- options in MLS are team options, not mutual options.

Honestly, if we do end up losing all these players and go on to miss the playoffs, I wouldn't necessarily "blame" anyone. Every team in every sport goes through cycles where they have to reboot or retool the roster, and it usually takes more than one offseason to do so. MLS is a little different because you can recruit guys from all over the world, but if we end up retooling, that's the cost of winning MLS Cup. Winning the trophy with that core will make its dissolution easier to stomach.

It might cause us to have a rough year this season, but hopefully we can at least do enough in the offseason to be above average.

yikes. while it would be sad i am also ok with it. the team has to move on at some point. i'm more upset the club didn't try harder to get santi permanently.
they also better get callens to stay!

the team has kept a good core of players down the spine for years now. it's getting to the point where we need to start replacing that spine so it's only natural. i thought santi was that future maxi replacement and he was looking like he was going to be...

gonna be interesting what happens in the next 2 months.

I know you aren't a perennial complainer/hater. So this is more semantic nitpicking. (What else is the interweb for?) But we can't know how "hard" the club tried to get him permanently. Some deals are possible. Some not. Some deals aren't worth the price. The club has shown a strong enough track record that I'll trust they explored the permanent option and either it wasn't possible or it wasn't worth the price tag.

Now I'm totally onboard if we want to express frustration that the deal wasn't available/cheap enough to do.

I’m fine with a rebuild. But then I want 1-2 big name DPs to watch over the next couple seasons while we do. That’s an easy ask for the organization and maybe the DP talent helps to hide other deficiencies while we build back.

I agree with you. We can't know and I wasn't necessarily blaming the club. Poor phrasing on my part. I was more trying to convey that I'm more upset about not being able to keep Santi vs Maxi leaving.

To be honest, I'm not all that surprised (assuming this is true). There were a lot of rumors last season about Maxi wanting to finish up at home. As much as I'd hate to lose him, I don't think anyone would begrudge him that.

I'll say this, too: I'm pretty excited. Every challenge is an opportunity. Watching this process unfold is going to be something. Time for our gaffer and front office to show what they really got.

Yes, I love off-season roster chaos, the rumors, the techno music of YouTube highlight videos, smoke, fire, disappointment, excitement, signings, new blood, etc.
