They upgraded the turf last season, so it's much better than it once was. It's the same system that is in use in Seattle and Portland. I hope Lampard and Villa are not Thierry Henry's and are willing to play on this turf, seeing as how we could play as many as 4 games on it next season.

Portland was the exception to the rule for Henry, though interestingly not Seattle. But he still had reservations about playing the second leg of the 2014 playoffs at Gillette even after the turf change. Hard to tell if it's just its past reputation continuing to follow it, or if there is still some difference compared to Portland

Lol, Frank won't play on that turf.

FYI, they had put grass down for last night's Gold Cup match. It was just put down and clearly had some issues, but in the past they have often left the temp grass down until the Patriots play in August. So it is possible that we will be playing on grass.

Possibility of temporary grass aside, can someone explain why Gillette is still a bad place to play since the 2014 upgrade to FieldTurf Revolution and VersaTile from the original 2006 FieldTurf? As already pointed out, this seems to be what Portland and Seattle both use

I was there Friday (and back for today). The temporary turf was awful on Friday. Worse than Yankee Stadium has ever been. I would prefer to play on the fake stuff up there.

Also - if you go - getting in and out is a NIGHTMARE. Park at one of the lots a mile away and walk it in.

“We need to understand first and foremost whether he has ever even played on an artificial surface. It wouldn’t surprise me if he hasn’t, certainly in a competitive match,” Kreis said. “And then we have to make the smartest decision we can and that decision comes later in the week.”

How the fuck do they not know this by now? Please tell me they're not this clueless, or it could be Kreis having diarrhea of the mouth again.

It's simple. I tweeted at Frank and asked him if he has ever played on artificial surface. I'm sure Jason could ask him face to face.

Edit: Sounds like they are laying the ground work for him not to play on Saturday. You don't make these comments if he's playing.

I am calling a goal for Angelino this weekend.

He played on it once for about 10 minutes in 2007.

Someone tweeted it at me almost immediately. How they remember that is beyond me. Was a Euro Qualifier in Moscow.

I have played on the new turf. It's hot and sticky. Not fun to be on.

But the complaints about playing on it are totally overblown now.

I am thinking New England will be without at least one of Agudelo and Nguyen because of the Gold Cup.

Eh. Possible that Klinsi makes changes. But i don't think those will be the changes. Might look at bringing Besler in the side if the SKC injury problems are dealt with.

Looking at the 35 man provisional...Shea could be called in, Davis could be called in, Kitchen could be called in.

But who knows? Would be ironic if for two weeks running, we miss the opponent's #9 and #10 due to Gold Cup.

And maybe Mix gets sent back to us.

Lol that would be something. Klinsmann calls in Nguyen for Mix. Don't think that switch will necessarily happen but Klinsmann has taught me to expect the unexpected with his personnel decisions.

Well we might as well find out now if Frank plays on turf or not. That way we can add it to our running list of conditions we know will result in Frank not playing for NYCFC:

1. If an opportunity comes up for him to sit on the bench for an EPL team.
2. It's too hot (Sorry calf strain I mean)
3. Turf field ?

If we can keep KWS off the pitch we won't need Frank for this game............ Our offense is coming around. Facey, Angelino, Iraola, et al and I feel really good about this match.

After watching what Iraola and Angelino did yesterday after about a week practicing with the team I can't wait to see what they will do once they settle in. I really don't even care when Frank shows up at this point.

It won't be nearly as bad for an MLS match. I typically was able to get out immediately from the closest lots. They will probably have about 20k at this match, so much less than last week. Also, for MLS matches I believe parking is still free!

I actually remember that game. It was a big thing in the UK at the time, because over here turf is considered anathema to football. They are actually banned in the UK, for professional games at least.
