It really feels like we escaped with 3 points that we didn’t deserve.
Parks has been outstanding for me. Thought Maxi had a pretty good game as well.
Callens and Sands were great and Ofori didn’t do much wrong either.
The rest of the squad couldn’t seem to get into the game.

We really need to work on crossing. It’s atrocious. Can’t tell you how many times Mata or Tiny just kicked it full power into the defender. Mata had 2 or 3 where he kicked it so hard it bounced off the defender, off of himself and out for a goal kick. Tinerholm also had one where he crossed it over and behind goal and it curled back in. Is crossing really this difficult for professionals? Look up, find a player and put it where they can get to it.

Frustrating game with so many chances. I have to be up for work in 5:30 hours but I’m glad we finally got back to our winning ways.

Everyone's getting healthy and we're past the suspensions. We now have 6 days to rest before our Friday night home match vs SKC, who are having a down year.

Standing wise, we're now in 4th place with plenty matches in hand to move further up the table.

Was not an enjoyable watch but I'll take the 3 points.

I will note as selfish as Mitri seems at times he did celebrate with his teammates unlike a certain player in L.A.

Great to have Sands back

Don't understand the no GMS unless he showed Altitude sickness in practice or something. He looked quite good against the Cows IMO and needs more playing time to get up to speed and integrate with the squad.

Ugly match. We were poor in offense and poor in defense. Luckily the Rapids are just not great overall so we were able to get 29 shots and luckily enough to have 2 go in. We were definitely lucky to get out of there with 3 points.
Finishing and crossing has been terrible. Albeit, crossing has never been great from our wingbacks. I'd say Rocha when he played LB in the USOC, was the best crosser we've had at the wing back position. Tinnerholm and Mata are just terrible.

Mitri scored the winner, but definitely not enough impact for a DP player. His lack of effort and indifference when he thinks he's fouled or simply loses the ball really irks me.

Shining spots for me - Sands hasn't lost a step. Solid as usual. Parks was great and is playing consistently well but I wish he'd be more selfish at times and take the shots.

The rest of the team was so so. Maxi was so so based on his standards. Heber missed a wide open net, which is unlike him. Taty was poor based on the standard he set for himself in prior games.

Really wished to see GMS instead of Medina. But maybe the altitude was too much for him being not really match fit. Once again, this game showed that we have lots of problems breaking down a team that parks the bus. Even with Mitri came on, we still had a lot of problems. We need to work on that. Be more patient, have more movement.

I'll take the 3 points. Let's keep climbing the table.

29 shots on goal
If we'd actually had 29 shots on target I would have been ecstatic at how amazing we were at creating chances while slackjawed at our bad luck at only two going in. I feel more even-keeled about our actual 9 shots on target.

Our +.09 GPG advantage makes me happy.

Oops - didn't mean to say 29 on goal :)

of those 29 - we had Heber's miss of a wide open net.

of the shots that never got counted - Maxi's whiff on a perfect cross/setup.

Should have been at least 3-1 if not more, had our finishing been better.

I say this nice a year and always get negative feedback, but:

Ian Joy is not a good announcer. He’s repetitive, uses too many superlatives and frequently picks a narrative and sticks with it regardless if it’s actually playing out. For example, his praise of Tinnerholm tonight. Poor shot selection, poor shot execution and did not situationally temper his runs up by a goal near the end of the game.

That being said, we need a quality LB very soon. It’s Cronin all to have the amount of quality we have on the bench and keep running Swatarita out there.

We're missing a cutting edge right now. Our runs off the ball up front, our lack of attacking width and the resultant lack of space for our wingbacks to run into mean that things are very congested for us and our chances are generally poor-quality.

While we wait for GMS, Shradi and Mitri to return to the lineup and gain fluency, our midfield and backline look really solid. With the exception of left-back. As said last week, I'm ready to see Rocha or Callens out there instead of either Sweat or Mata.

Mata can be fantastic at times and just horrible at other times. Sweat is just mostly horrible with flashes of brilliance. Haha. We do need a leftback that's consistent. and someone needs to work with Tinnerholm to perfect his technical abilities (crosses, dribbling, SHOOTING). He'd be a top LB in this league if he delivered consistently high quality crosses and easily could have a goal a game, if his shooting ability was better.

I wish we had Roy Hudson as an announcer. I love that guy.

^Agree with the wingback situation. Aside from Rocha's lack of pace in the first ORL game, his last few games, he's been pretty solid for us. I wouldn't mind seeing him there with the caveat that we had someone cover against more pacey attacks.

Matarrita is so frustrating. Anyone can see that he’s got a ton of skill, yet he floats crosses like he’s trying to hit the clouds and he has 2-3 egregious defensive “yikes” per game. He got beat on the first goal and did his best to give up the game in the 91st with his awful foul.

I agree totally :p Would be so fun to hear him yelling "hebeeEEEERRRR OHOHOHOSDFHOGSDFGOSDFGOSDJFGOSDJFGOJSDFOGJDSFOGJSDOFJGSODFG"

Maybe we watch too much EPL and international play where crosses are low, driven, curling balls to an actual target, so that when we watch MLS, and especially our NYCFC games, and see these floaty whatever crosses to nobody, it's like WHAT WAS THAT?!

Did I watch a different game than everyone else? I thought we dominated and deserved the win easily.

I was disappointed in Matarrita's and Tinnerholm's crossing and our finishing in general, but Colorado packed the box the entire game and getting great opportunities was going to be tough. Its Its was just a matter of getting enough shots off and eventually we'd break thru.

Something that possibly wasn’t on the TV shots, Jonathan Lewis kisses the Rapids chest on his kit after his assist.

FU JLew!

(Saw his father at the tailgate pregame. Didn’t say hello, but it was obviously him as he was wear a Lewis USMNT kit with the game embroidered on the front with gold, like only the players get)

Weather was crazy. It didn’t rain like the Colorado games at Yankee Stadium, but outside before the match it looked nuts. Glad I got a poncho, didn’t want to get wet, and also saved me from the Mitri goal beer shower. I will always bring my NYCFC rain jacket to away match now, even to Vancouver which is a domed stadium.

S sbrylski nailed it. I mean really now...

Total domination against a parked bus. Granted we were a man up but their goal was against the run of play and they barely threatened (though Mata sure made things more interesting than he should have).

I think we wasted JLew as an asset, but he vanished after the goal and Ian was correct that he would have been on the bench (and probably not on for a minute) for us tonight.
