Foreign Dp's For Nycfc

A Gilardino-Villa partnership would wreck MLS defenses. Gilardino is far from a superstar, but he has been consistently good for anywhere from 13-17 goals every season in Italy. With a couple 20+ goal seasons earlier in his career.

With the right service he definitely could score around 20 goals in MLS.

If you use the other 2 DPs on Gilardino and Lampard, you will not get the right service to Villa.

These DPs picks have to be smart and I'm not convinced that another DP striker and a aged midfielder are not the right moves.

I very much agree. As expressed elsewhere, I'd like to see us get an energetic d-mid and a creative attacking midfielder. If we presume that Lampard or Xavi is the 2nd DP, I'd like us to use the 3rd slot on a CAM.

I think we can get a destroyer without burning a DP slot. Look at what Kreis did with Beckerman, a rather unremarkable player that Kreis molded into an 8 time all star playing precisely that destroyer/quarterback role.

It also helps that the US is perhaps strongest in its production of energetic midfielders who can run tirelessly. It's the American way of play: run fast, try hard. If our d mid can do that, I suspect Kreis can chain him to his CBs tactically and leave us in decent enough shape there without making the position a cap issue.

As others have mentioned, I just don't see how we could use Xavi and Lampard together at this stage in their careers. I would put Gilardino in this poor fit category as well. We need guys who will play one and two touch and move without the ball.

There is this young American 8/10 playing at Rosenborg, but I don't know if there's much interest in having him here. ;)

8/10 at Rosenborg should tell you everything you need to know. ;)

Otherwise, I agree with you. There have to be better young American prospects that would not require DP to assume this role (which would eliminate Danny Williams, who would be a much better fit, in my mind).

Would be awesome but unlikely. With the exposure he is getting from the World Cup, he was already rumored to go to tottenham hotspur for 5 mill. Plus, he must be making at least 400 K, even just warming Bayerns bench occasionally.

But with that said, would be awesome signing, for publicity and sporting reasons.

We couldn't get Wes for less than DP money. I love the way he plays so when his contract expires in 2016 and we have a free DP spot, we should give him a call. If he stays healthy and is open to coming to MLS.

If he does, would he need to go via the lottery though? If he does, every team would try and get him.
But man, would that be sick if we can land him.

Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic eyeing MLS? PSG star tells Sports Illustrated: "I find America very interesting"
“I will really think about it because I find it very interesting to come over to America, because my friend Thierry Henry is playing there and he’s doing fantastic there,” Ibrahimovic told SI.com last week. “And he talks a lot of positive about the Major League Soccer, so it’s an interesting thing if the opportunity is still there in two to three years.”

“But if I ever get a chance to play in front of the Americans, I would try to do my best to convince them, show them the type of soccer they like to see,” he said, on the topic of how his no-holds-barred playing style might be received on these shores.

I think Zlatan coming to MLS is a possibility. With the kind of cash backing NYCFC? That makes it the most likely destination. Either that or Miami because of Beckham.

Although I think NYCFC could get Ibra, I think he wants to stay in Paris until his contracts up and I don't see MC/Yankees spending the money to get him from PSG.

I think we'll see one if many free agents become a DP.

Our Brazilian friend mentioned Diego Forlan. Thoughts? Do you guys think he still has some juice in the tank?

Mario Balotelli was saying he wishes he had more privacy and faced less racism while he plays....I guess even Italians were insulting him at an Italian practice.

Sounds to me like New York would fix all that!
