Galaxy Postmatch

Who would you give it to though? I was very impressed with Jack in his build up but he was also a bit off with his final ball several times after a great move to create space for himself crossing it low and to no one or taking one touch too many IMO.
We just beat an elite club, kept a clean sheet, and won at home. Three things we have had trouble doing since day one. And how do we celebrate? Bitching about Saunders and nitpicking Villa and Jack. Seriously?

The overall caliber of play by both teams was a step above the MLS norm today. Passing was crisp, lots of chances created. Our composure was exemplary. Jack's ball to Mata to set up the goal was masterful. Not to mention his insane byline pantsing of a hapless Galaxy defender a few minutes later. Mata had a great day, too.

Can I ask why this dude wants to come at me? I was discussing this IRL, and pointing out I have no claim on a monopoly or even being first. Then, it was pointed out to me by other forum members, I may have indeed been first to call him shit.

So whoever it was thinking they were being wise can lick my salty swollens. Calling out bullshit since at least Jan '15

I wish we had a player like Van Damme. So athletic for a centerback and while he isn't the greatest defender in the world or the league, his ability to get forward as a centerback is elite.
Chanot that's true.

Btw - standing by my call that our long term future is chanot -mena. Mena may be world class 1v1. So damn good in that situation. Shaky at times under different situations, but his individual talent with Chanot talent/org skills could be awesome.

Hmm, must be nice not to have to dread goal kicks!

Well, I don't want to belabor the point, but since you asked...

Off the top of my head: armband a la Michael Bradley (to be auctioned off later, proceeds to charity); jerseys auctioned with proceeds to charity; Supporters in the City segment to show diversity in the NYCFC community; LGBTQ performer for the national anthem; a pride flag atop YS or somewhere in the stadium; PSA's by team captains in English and Spanish discouraging the offensive puto chant; advertisement of the NY Ramblers event in the lead-up to the game to promote their scholarship fund; some pregame clip about Robbie Rogers. Food specials? Please. We want acknowledgement that sports are not the friendliest environments for LGBTQ people and thus encouragement to participate, not a handout.

Again, if you're going to say that you're having a Pride Night, these are the things you might want to do to have one. That's where people are taking umbrage.

I would say most of the audience cringes during every goal kick, albeit some more so than others obviously. It is a dumb tradition and I truly hope the club and the sg's put in a serious effort to end it.

Those are all good ideas. I agree they should have done at least some type of PA acknowledgement if they were serious about it.

Hmm hopefully you'll look back at this and realize that being a smug jackass isn't as cute as you thought it was.

I definitely thought that the club could have done more/something/anything. Unfortunately, my sister a big old lesbian or "lgbtqz" deserving of a complimentary chicken bucket for the day - was unable to attend. She honestly thought the pride day was a gimmick anyway- given that it wasn't gay pride month and was only announced after Orlando. I just think the club halfasses any "event night". Although it's one thing to blow off Star Wars night, but you shouldn't announce a pride night and just give out poptarts and be done with it. If you're going to represent a marginalized segment of your fan base either you do it or you don't announce it and raise expectations.
I certainly was not trying to come off that way and I apologize for doing so, and the z was a typo so sorry for that as well.
The way I see it, the club did do something positive in the partnership with the ramblers. They did go out of their way to welcome and support the community, at a marquee matchup no less. Sure they could have done more, the suggestions by Danton were all good and most of them pretty simple for the club to do, but I just don't get why they get so much disgust for doing something positive for that community.
But they also could have done nothing, or maybe do this for a crappy game against Chicago, in that case none of the good would have come from this.

I've only heard about "pride night" on these forums, so I'm not sure when they ever hyped this up to be a big deal, so I don't get the disappointment. The way I see it, they welcomed the lgbtq community and helped a non-profit. That's good.

What could they have done that would have been offensive or discriminatory to others?
I was sort of going off of my not so serious idea of free food/merch for Lgbtq community members, which would have been discriminatory.

How you doin?
I didn't know Leo Messi was an NYCFC fan.

Pirlo had a near-perfect game from where I sit in 233b. Prescient on D, a rock in possession. If our finishing was better he would have had at least 2 "secondary assists". It remains an absolute privilege to see him work.
He's our entire offensive plan. Build out of the back so pirlo has a bit more time and let him guy a long ball to an attacker the break.

It's not pretty to watch, and I think it's lazy coaching, but it works somewhat vs MLS competition.

And what's with the constant slagging on our defense by announcers? We are giving up 60%possession and are under attack all game. Defense has been awesome for a while now.

Lots of folks are lazy and it shows when they see that NYC has the second worst Goals Against in the league (for a long time it was the worst) and assume all sorts of things about NYC's defense that are not true.

Take the write-up of yesterday's game which says "While NYCFC’s effort to earn three points and a rare clean sheet is certainly commendable, the major talking point coming out of this one will be David Villa’s goal."

The unchecked assumption is that a team that gives up a lot of goals must not get shutouts, but in fact Saunders is tied for the league lead in clean sheets with 7. The others are Seitz in Dallas and Robles with RB. That doesn't change the team's total goals against or make Saunders a top keeper. I also realize some keepers have been hurt, etc. But shutouts are certainly not rare for NYC. The team just has a lot of bad multi-goals-against games to counteract those shutouts. Those 7 and 4 goal games given up to RB do a lot of work to destroy the GA total and average. As it happens one of the 7 shutouts is also against RB. Our defense wavers between extreme poles of hideous and quite good. And arguably it is getting better: the GA average is 1.2 in the last 10 games, which include 5 of the 7 shutouts and yet also two 3-goal games and a 4-goal game.

This may be deemed a spoiler because it's going to happen but so be it: Mullins with the brace, DC wins, making our 3 even more important.
Based on how my picks in my prediction league worked out yesterday, I'd have to say you're right since I have this going the opposite way at 3-1.

Andoni gets my MOTM. We won because we bossed the midfield. All three of our old man mids were great but Andoni is the reason we had possession during key stretches.

The clean sheet is super flattering. The match should have been 4-3 us. Our forwards couldn't score because of some brutal first touches. Our back line was great at times and not so good at others. I wouldn't start Josh on my son's u-11 squad. At least twice he dived himself out of position only to make a miraculous finger tip save that should have been easy. There was another time when he a Mena decided to pass the ball back and forth when LA was actually somewhat pressing. Still don't know how they didn't score there.

But overall it was some good MLS. We played much much better than last two matches. Someone else mentioned this already, but during the match yesterday I finally got the feeling we can win the Cup this year.

Final thing is I like Stiven as a sub, but would rather see him start over Tommy. Tommy is great against teams that don't press at all. But he was clearly the slowest and least effective player on the pitch yesterday.

I said it in chat but I'll say it again here: I'm shocked that LA didn't press us more. I would think every team would see that that is the one tactic that consistently gives us trouble.

You would think that after the Colorado game it would be even more clear that teams that sit back are going to struggle against our offense.

So what I'm saying is, I'm nervous about the adjustments Bruce Arena is going to make before he faces us in the cup final.

I don't think they have they legs for it. Too many old guys. They would be gassed after 10 min.

Pressing isn't something a team can just switch in and out of at will. A team has to be committed to it as it requires a high level of coordination and conditioning. If you do it wrong, you get gutted. Look at how bad NJ was the first half of last year.

LA did press us at times, but they aren't the kind of team that can do the full on press sustained for 90 minutes.

Just an fyi for anyone interested, yes, my toes are killing me this morning.

And isn't it fun to have a 3 pm Saturday match where we beat the best team in the league? 3 pm is just perfect to snag a buzz and maintain through the match before letting it all hang out come celebration time. And get back home with enough time to come here and bitch about goal fillers and whether or not there was a pride day and if so, were it done properly.

I think everyone knows where I stand on the former. As to the latter, the fact that know one knows if it happened kind of says all we can say about it. But far be it from me to want to stop any bitching, debating or discussion. My DNA is imprinted with a near love of conflict.
