Game And Supporter Rules?

I agree with CP. There is no bad press. The point of publicity is to get people talking about you. A new team needs to do what they can to get their name our there and known. A recent example of this is Miley Cyrus. Everything she is doing with the way she dresses and sings etc is always talked about. She is having the most success of her career now. Why? Because she is constantly talked about and people don't forget her. Would you rather be forgotten or talked about? Being talking about, bad or good, is a good thing because as long as people are talking abuot you, you're doing your job.

So you think that, say, all the media attention around Rebecca Black when she released her abysmally bad song on YouTube was a positive thing for her? I don't know about you, but I don't want to be famous for being hated by everybody.

Well, believe what you want to believe, but I'll just put this out there - there will come a time when you'll realise that actually, receiving twice as many negative headlines as positive ones doesn't mean that you're "getting your name out there" any more, it means that you're becoming a laughing stock.

Edit: OK, that last paragraph wasn't entirely fair. I got distracted and was thinking of the negative press a club can get - the fans themselves tend to be viewed more fairly. Still, there is such thing as bad press.

I get the idea behind "no bad press" but it's just plain wrong. If one of our members was ever caught in possession of child pornography, don't you think our 'enemies' would make as big of a deal as possible to remind everyone how NY Supporters are child smut peddlers. Sure we've got a full page in AM New York and quarter page in the Post and even a quick mention on MSG during a RedBulls game.

That's bad press.

Yes. That's an extreme but we should be holding ourselves to a much higher standard than 'hey! At least people are talking about us!'. We should aim to have ONLY good press. Do things that make people WANT to talk about us. Associate NY SC with good things.

I only really agree with #3... and I don't mind #4.

Well, sir, you might want to check out her new song...Saturday. I shit you not, that is a song. I won't even post it here out of respect for everyone else. Bad press lead to her 2nd hit single. (On a serious note, I agree with what you are saying. There definitely is bad press. All one has to do is look at Cliven Bundy, Donald Sterling, and the like. That's bad press and for them will cost them whatever momentum they have garnered.)

New rule, no child porn. I think everyone would ageee wit that

Honestly if you make the news for fighting with rival fans then things have gone wrong. Do yourself a favor and read 'Among The Thugs' and see how far we've come from that kind of abhorrent behavior. Condoning or even suggesting that violence towards supporters of other clubs is glamorous or worthwhile because it achieves notoriety is just flat out wrong.

The club already has ties to several community groups around the City. Let's focus our aims the same way and achieve glory by being better than the best.

If someone wants to fight, let them fight

You keep that attitude and I'm sure you'll find a fight sooner or later. You're glamorizing a past you had no part of and wouldn't want any of but you've probably seen some movie and thought that it was cool to be a goon. English people will tell you how amazing it is to live in a country where people can watch a game civilly without fear of violence.

I hope the supporters group doesn't condone or accept any kind of violent behavior. I'm certain the club itself wont.

I am aware of her second song - though I staunchly refuse to listen to it.

Your own wording is perfect proof of the negative effect of bad press. The fact that you had to use the phrase "I shit you not, that is a song" shows that you instantly see the connection between her first and second songs derisively and as an unfunny (well, slightly funny) joke. All credit to her for being able to get past the negative press to make a bit of cash off it, but at the end of the day, she is still basically riding the way she is mocked as a device. She is not becoming more credible for it, she is simply becoming the joke that just keeps giving.

Y'all have so much to learn. You really do.

Come back here when some hack decides to turn on this club for no apparent reason, come back here when a mountain is made form a molehill, come back here when what you know as truth is turned into a lie by the press.

It may not be by the US media, but it will happen, and when it does, you will lose it.

There 100% is such thing as bad press. Just look at Donald Sterling and the LA Clippers or Aaron Hernandez and the Pats

Who are "ya'll" cuz it seems like the majority here do believe there is "bad" press.

can't really agree with #1 having a drum or two isn't bad as others have mentioned as long as they know what they are doing. Nothing wrong with getting dressed up or painting your face

I'm not a fan of the people who dress up so they can appear on tv. And while I prefer to paint faces, I'll never let someone paint mine.

Face painting works to an extent. Like the guy at RBA who does the whole Red Bull thing. He's not a loud obnoxious asshole. He does it to support his team and create a fun atmosphere for other fans. It just becomes irksome when, like you said, they do it for the sole purpose of getting airtime.

I guess it's up to us to moderate what's considered proper or not. Like NO AIRHORNS, NO VUVUZELAS.

I think rules on preferences (drums etc) should be made later once we have established our own style. Ground rules are great to preserve integrity and build a positive culture. I guess we will have to see what rules we need to put in place as the season moves forward.

More than things that aren't allowed we should think of things that show uniformity. I remember going to a game in the Korean League and it was an exhibition between Tokyo vs Seoul in Seoul. The Tokyo support section was empty until 5 minutes before kick off. All of a sudden with songs/chants they all burst through the section and filled it up. It was pretty powerful/intimidating. Being proactive with positive culture will hopefully stop negative things from forming.

Sounds awesome. I was hoping to find something similar on Youtube. Nothing. But I did come across this
FC Seoul Supporters Section
I love the energy.
