General MLS Discussion

Does anyone realize (or for that matter, care?) the Draft starts in about a minute and a half?

And we pick at #24 if you're interested.

Thrilled to have Ronny back in MLS, and that's a really good spot for him. Ronny is quite a character and should do good work in one of the most high-pressure jobs in this league.

I'd be sad he didn't come back to NYCFC, but it wouldn't surprise me if we weren't interested in bringing back a coach who left us in the middle of a season when we were top of the table and defending champions. I would think there would be some hard-feelings there among the front office preventing a reunion

I'm interested in seeing how Delia does.

I still maintain that we won the cup as a bizarre result of complementary development across our 3 short-serving managers. Vieira drilled the system into the players, Dome refined the tactics, and Ronny got everyone bought in and found the balance between strict system adherence and just letting the guys play. If you replaced the years covered by those three guys with a longer tenure for just one of them I'm not sure we win the cup.

The fact that Ted unkle thinks the world needs a multi paragraph statement announcing his retirement perfectly sums up the Ted unkle experience. For the last time, No one came to the game to see you Ted.
I came to see Ted Unkel.

We went from Geiger to Unkel. Who's next as most hated?

There are a few new ones that are annoying because they seem to be in over their heads but they could get better with time. Limiting it to only the established guys that have been around for a while my vote is for Penso.

There aren't a lot of good referees in MLS, but no one was as big a showboat than Ted Unkel, who really thought the fans were there to watch him. His Twitter photo being a silhouette of him theatrically pointing to the spot is hilariously on-brand and almost makes you think it's a parody account.
When people ask him what he does for a living, he says "I'm the Michael Jordan of soccer refereeing" probably.

these two are probably high on the list of "look at me, i'm the ref" in my opinion...

This is kind of a question relating to our new manager signing and him leaving mid year but more appropriate to this thread I think.

Can someone explain the mechanics of switching from our current calendar to a European calendar? Do we
  1. finish a normal year in 2026 and have an extended break until August 2027?
  2. finish a normal year in 2026 and then have some kind of abbreviated year/tournament of some kind from Feb-May 2027 before kicking off a full season in August 2027?
  3. end 2026 early (sep?) and then start the 2026/27 season late (dec?)
  4. do something else entirely?

The reporting is that MLS would do Option 2. They would do some sort of spring event to bridge the gap until the next season would begin in August 2027.

Just wanted to remind everyone that Season Pass renews on February 1st, must be cancelled by Jan 31st. So cancel today so you don't forget, especially if you are doing the Apple TV+ trial and cancel thing to get the $20 discount.

Thank you for this. I'm likely going to be upgrading to a full-season ticket plan for next year, so that was a good reminder for me to cancel billing.
