Anyone have a surefire remedy for a nasty chest infection not involving antibiotics or whiskey (every folksy remedy either starts or ends with a dash of whiskey... look them up)?

I need to push through for Sunday or the match weather will likely put me down.

Oh, and has anyone discussed the kits to be worn for the match yet?

Well if you have a chest infection, surely you should see a doctor. Then, as for the match, stay indoors (either at home or a suite in the stadium). But in terms of the kits, just scroll up.

Lung transplant?

Seriously though, if you're describing it as "nasty," are you sure you want to subject yourself to sub-freezing temperatures for 2+ hours?

I may very well need to see one depending on how things are tomorrow... and stop calling me Shirley!

I was having some fun with Midas Mulligan about the kits, by the way.

I am already on the list just below Louie Anderson.

Jokes aside, I hold out hope I'll be fine come Sunday. If not, though, I will have some tickets to be had.

It turns out time really knows how to give a birthday gift: a specific reminder of the toll it's taking on your body.

Give me a more specific set of symptoms, and I can pass along all of my wisdom accumulated from the good Dr./Mrs. Gotham.

Do you have a fever? If so, high grade (103 or more)?
Congestion?
When you say chest, do you really mean chest - i.e. lungs? or just nasal & throat?

Chances are 90%+ that you just have a cold - i.e. virus, which pretty much needs to run its course. Take Sudafed - the kind they keep behind the counter so that Jesse Pinkman can't buy it. There is a 12-hour pill that works great. If throat is sore and/or you have a low grade fever, add ibuprofen. Drink fluids, get rest, etc. Take lots of showers. If you have a sore throat, steep some fresh ginger in hot water and add honey. If you have a high grade fever, then go to doctor.

Thanks Gotham, I didn't intended to solicit such detailed advice but I appreciate it all the same. No fever as of yet, thankfully, and it may just be a bad cold with chest congestion (let's hope). I have a mother who is a NP and a friend who is an internist—both are also chastising me heavily right now.

Getting sick on your birthday—especially in a way that can't easily be hidden on the phone/FaceTime—opens you up to all sorts of well-meaning "why aren't you taking better care of yourself" questions. And that's directed at a man that normally walks or runs (commuting to work or playing football) 40-50 miles a week, considers and logs nearly every calorie and nutrient he puts in his body, obstains from most pharmaceuticals, and (despite early comments) drinks in moderation.

All of that said, I am currently using my iPhone to reply from the shower whilst sipping steeped ginger and chamomile tea (with honey), and listening to the dulcet tones of the Lumineers. That'll be followed with a nice lie down under a NYCFC fleece blanket with Narcos on in the background (I'm told that is the best show for a recovery binge).

Roll on Sunday.

Oh, and Midas Mulligan, I think this may be my best (and only) non-topical derailing of a thread ever.

I'd have liked that post, but you just admitted to nude posting!!! I mean, I always assumed some of that went down in here, but I didn't have know about it!

How bad do we over react if we hold possession again but don't get a goal in net?
Also, how good/bad are DC?

DC has made almost no changes to last year's team, and Luciano Acosta is questionable with an injury.

That said, DC did play really well in the second half of the year, so maybe it will be a good game.

Last season when our record was terrible but we were playing well I was pointing to stats and trying to convince folks we had a good team.

If we have 7 scoring chances (with Villa up top) and our opponents have 3 every game we are going to have a fantastic season even if we start it 0-2.

DC didn't look too sharp in the condensed game I watched but they have Bill Hamid who will single-handedly win 3-4 games for them every year.

That DC game in September was probably my favorite of all -- I think this will be a good game with a deserved win for us.

Hopefully, we look back to last year, when after our first 8 games we had 7 points and 10 goals (4 points and 6 goals against teams not named Chicago). Of course, we went on to finish 4th in the league and 1st in scoring.

It could easily take time for us to get the chemistry to the level necessary to set up and finish goals. Hopefully not as long as last year, but maybe past this week.

WEATHER UPDATE

I'm told the team is monitoring the weather report for this weekend and there's a *chance* that the game is postponed. A final decision to be made by mid day tomorrow.

New England already postponed theirs because of extreme cold and wind chills (high of 25 and low of 8 with wind at 10-14 mph), NYC is expected to be in a similar situation (high of 29, low of 19 with wind at 11-15 mph).

I'd wish I could find out before my seats possibly sell. If it's postponed to a day I can make it, then it would suck if I had sold them. I guess I can always just buy in Delta and hang with some Global Warming Pirates. If I pay them not to beat me up...

NYCFC should use AccuWeather- showing a high of 33 with winds of 8-11mph. I'm all for postponing if there's freezing rain, but those are not bad temps if you layer up. I'm sure there will be idiots wearing just a jersey and no coat and totally drunk, but whatevs - there are bigger idiots at NFL games shirtless with body paint.
