Messi To Nycfc After A Stint At Mc

That's the TV deal..... the real money will be in merchandising / marketing Messi-related jerseys and appearances. That is the gold mine! Until now, the only Messi jerseys are Argentina and Barca, but to add a ManCity jersey to the equation would fund a small 3rd world nation, and then when Messi moved to NYCFC, it'd be a chance to double-dip on the merchandising / marketing front. This isn't even taking into account what having Messi on the team(s) would do for trophies and club valuation.....

CFG may break the proverbial bank to bring Messi to MCFC/NYCFC, but the move to MCFC will produce a greater return on the investment and then the move to NYCFC will be the gravy on top.

It's like Disney with the new Star Wars..... they paid $4B for the Star Wars franchise which would seem like a lot, but last night it was announced that they expect $2.5B profit on ticket sales and another $2.5B from marketing/merchandise, for a net profit of $1B, and that's before the next two cash-cow installments are made.

totally agreed. you can't lose money on NFL broadcasting right no matter how much you pay! get him over and I pay for premium box season ticket, if i can still afford it!

It's really not as profitable as you'd think, Man United, Barca and Real Madrid only actually sell around 2 million jerseys a year. Those teams are huge in Africa and Asia but people in those countries aren't spending $80 on the real thing, fakes are everywhere over in those places. There's no doubt City would sell more jerseys with Messi there but the money they'll make will be a drop in the bucket when compared to the transfer fee and wages needed to buy him.

don't forget the TV deals and all other commercials/merchandising. Saw a report that Barca has more fans in China than in Spain and their operations there are only starting and netted $2mil last year. The club's internal goal is to eventually make 100Mil from china every year.

I've got news for you - it's way more profitable than you think because CFG wouldn't bother going through the motions if acquiring Messi was a losing proposition and proverbial Money Pit.

I won't pay for Premium, but I'll still enjoy watching him from my section, which hopefully by then will be in the new stadium...... (sigh).......

I know it's not your point, but I would SO buy a Messi BB-8.

I believe that they can spend as much money as they want as long as they don't saddle the club with debt. If the Sheikh himself wants to write a check, donate it to the club and that covers the cost of Messi, he can do that. That was the easing of FFP last year.

Agreed. He's 28 now. Say the deal goes through in this transfer window or even at the end of this league season. He would be in Man City from age 28/29-32/33 (4 years) and then with NYCFC from 32/33-35/36 (3 years). This would be the same age when Villa signed with us.

You have to remember that, as good as Villa is/was, Messi is on a COMPLETELY, COMPLETELY, COMPLETELY different world. Messi will still be better at 36 than Villa was in his prime.

How are you not dead after that debate?
Wonderful question.

I drank roughly a liter of water during the debate, and another liter right before bed. It seems to do the trick quite nicely.

If your talking about sheer amount imbibed. We started playing a little loose with the rules after about an hour.

Ronaldo must be better than Messi. Ronaldo must play for LAFC. Zlatan is king. Zlatan plays for Miami FC.

I think Ronaldo said he doesn't want to go to the MLS. YouTube his interview on the Jonathan Ross show.My memory is fuzzy.

Even after all the rumours, I still don't see Messi ever leaving Barca. I honestly think he'll get to the age of about 31 or 32 when his speed starts to fade and other, younger players start to come through and he'll simply retire knowing no-one will match his accomplishments for a long, long time. After all, remember that he and Ronaldo have a constant competition for supremacy going, but Ronaldo is four years older than him. Ronaldo will either retire or leave Real in the next 3-4 years tops, and after that I reckon Messi simply won't feel the need to keep proving himself. Once he outlasts Ronaldo and has a season of unchallenged supremacy, he will simply have Won Football.

Well except for that thing called the World Cup.

I know what you're saying, but I reckon for all that they might say differently, Messi and Ronaldo both believe that they have transcended the World Cup. It's all about being recognised as the greatest player in history, and they accomplish that far better by beating each others' scoring records in La Liga than they do by winning individual trophies, especially national team trophies where you are beholden to a series of players who share your nationality but are nowhere near your skill level.

But they haven't captured the World...Cup.

And I don't think records in La Liga are fair. It's a two horse race. I would have liked to have seen Ronaldo and Messi on Premier League teams and see how well they would have faired in their careers.
