Nycfc In Talks Kv Oostende For Defender Frédéric Brillant.

Did you watch us last year? Hernandez dribblig with his hands up and a lost look on his face is burned into my memory
Agree. We need someone who can help bring the ball out, especially when teams sit on Pirlo. I probably think it is even more important because I actually find Mena to be a bit ponderous on the ball (though I love his many other virtues).

Central defenders should not dribble at all unless they are as good as Kompany is in many crucial components like strengh, speed, mental skills etc etc.
Unfortunately, the alternative, when teams sit on Pirlo, is our goalie, who isn't great kicking, hoofing the ball up to our 5'7" striker. Somebody else needs to be able to help move the ball forward.

I think it's gonna be Matarrita, Mix or/and MacNamara

From what we saw last year as long as Pirlo is around we need CBs who can handle the ball. Pirlo regularly wants to pass back to the CBs or use them to switch the field while he frees himself up into the space he wants. Most MLS teams have their forwards close down and press a lot more aggressively than I see in the european games I watch making CB ball skills even more important.

He learned that move from AJ, although he never perfected the part where you ignore ANY forward option while continuing to feign exasperation with your superior midfield teammates before finally playing a lateral ball to Wingsky which inevitably launches a 1v1 counter.

I don't think it's a question of having a defender who can dribble the ball out, rather than step forward and pass the ball out. If you have someone like that, it eases the pressure on the defence and can make space for your midfielders and forwards.
Oh my god this x1000. Our CB's lacked any and all ability to move the ball up the field. How many times did we watch as a ball was punted forward to the shortest guy on the field to win in the air? It was utterly painful to watch.
I think all this focus on the backline with improve the product on the field tremendously. We have the middle and front covered, some talented players that can move the ball around but being able to get them the ball without it being taken away on an errant pass or a punt up field because of slight pressure would help loads.

Two ways to protect yourself defensively. One is to have great individual defenders. Two is to keep possession and limit chances for the opposition. With Pirlo, Lampard, Iraola, Poku - we should play possession football.

It was unfortunate that Nemec didn't pan out because he was a great target for those long balls and did a great job controlling them and getting the ball to a runner. Other than that, he really struggled.

Just thought about it. And that is why we need a tall 2nd striker who's good at heading and jumping and who would play up front whatever the tactics are (4-3-3 or other)

I haven't watched a lot of his career, but I always thought a major criticism of Crouch is that he wasn't great in the air?

He's pretty much done over there now. He can still play, but he's a forgotten man.
