NYCFC v Revolution Postmatch

23 and a half thousand isn't that disappointing. It's better than Seattle last year.

I'd liked the third-rail joining in the Spanish chants and the "New York is Blue and White" chants in section 205 (thanks to the guy in in the gray shirt).

Villa on the left-wing though? What was going through PV's head?

I'm in 205 now too (switched seats from last year). First time sitting in the new seats today... Really like 205.

Good eye! Hope we did the forum proud by nailing that RJ Allen question! Did also get to meet Ulrich Ulrich by the concessions at halftime, which was fun.

Leah's wish for the season in our very first show was to get on the Jumbotron. Mine was a home playoff game. As the world stands today, at least we know one of us will get what we wanted. While there are positives from each of the last three matches (though not too many today), two points from three home matches isn'g going to get it done. More specific thoughts to follow after I finish being cranky.
I can confirm that Leah has as much energy in person as on the videos!

How about we trust Vieira to make the decision on which keeper better fits his system? If there comes a time when Johannson is in goal for this club then we will all support him, but right now, for better or worse,Vieira has selected Saunders so either criticize Vieira as much as you do Saunders or support both coach and player.

Edit: Look, I think Johannson is better with his distribution, but I trust Vieira enough at this stage to set his own lineups.
Can't blame Vieira as much as Saunders - Saunders may look good in practice thus getting the nod and yet he makes his mistakes in games.

If u think being a gk in present day soccer is only about stopping the ball then yes Saunders was ok today. But overall he sucks and needs to be replaced ASAP. His distribution is laughable for a pro keeper.

I mean... I just said he was mediocre. Still think he was. Not good, but not awful (some bad plays/distribution by him and some decent). Just think that everyone blaming everything on Saunders every week is going a little too far. The team has other problems.

I love Poku when he's on the ball, but the Poku love is going too far as well. He was decent. As someone else said, he has a little bit of Shelton in him... Doesn't know what to do with it once he gets to where he was trying to go.

Still really early in the season. I think the team will be OK.

The constant through both...Saunders.

Well he is a LW too...more so than Mullins, so Mullins came in and it shifted Villa outside. But Villa was bad with playing it today. Couldn't finesse or dribble past any 1v1s..actually no one could. They all dribbled until they couldn't. Like they were scared to shoot or center. If PV is gonna go with 3 up top, they need to cross better. There's no big target body either, so that hurts too.

Poku did at least track back and played better defense. I think his last touch was the bigger problem than his first touch. He has a one track mind - barrel forward in Beast Mode, which is fine as long as it culminates in a productive play. Today it often did not.

You may have to come up to the 2nd level - I'm not sure us Plebians are allowed to travel down without a passport. I'm in 228 and they just opened a grilled cheese/short rib stand (highly tasty) behind it, so you can kill two birds with one stone coming up.

You could see he was pretty gassed during the game. And his first step was agonizingly slow. But once he got his body between the ball and defender on 50/50's he won every one.

Lots of good things said already.

Mena had to go off. He's just not a left back, and it's just disappointing that Vieira hadn't figured this out during the week rather than the first 20-odd minutes of the match. But I wonder whether we could have survived by just switching him out for Martinez and sticking to the W-M instead of switching to the 4-3-3. I actually prefer the 4-3-3, but I don't know how well-drilled the team is with 4-3-3 right now and our movement seemed to suffer after we switched. I felt like we looked relatively solid defensively, and we were doing a solid job of getting the ball to Mendoza and Taylor on the flanks, but that's where everything locked up. Our midfielders weren't making the runs they needed to make to get through the defensive line.

I thought Martinez was a bright spot. He doesn't have a lot of pace but he's a real scrapper and was one of the only players besides Bravo who showed any real hunger, IMO. Unfortunately neither of them are great distributors of the ball. I'm just relieved that we have a solid back up for Matarrita because I was worried.

Mendoza had a puzzling habit of turning inside with the ball when he had acres of space to move into directly in front of him. The dude is seriously quick, but seems almost hesitant to take advantage of it. But to me, knowing that he has this tendency makes Vieira's decision to throw him over on the left a strange one. I feel like he's much more of a threat on the right hand side. From memory, Taylor looked more comfortable on the left, too.

Poku looked OK beating people when he got the ball, although his end product got worse as the game went on. I was most frustrated how unhelpful he was off the ball. Often he seemed unaware of the runs he could have made for his team mates to receive the ball. Maybe if Vieira can stand on the side of the pitch with a laser pointer to show Poku where he needs to be, we'll be alright.

Fans were prosaic. I wonder how much this problem may be an architectural one. It feels like baseball-style engagement right now. Low-slung seating pitch outside of the supporters section discourages standing. (Securitas as well probably). When the team needed a lift, we were very quiet. It'll come with time, I hope.

I'll happily wander over a few sections for some variety. I'm about tapped on hot dogs for the season.

Can someone recap the various signs, banners and tifos? Even better if you have pics. There were many, and props to all who did the work. I would try to describe them, but I could not make out all of them precisely from my spot.

.

I was pretty pleased by his performance too given that I really had no idea what to expect. He seemed to "play above his skills" if you will by being aggressive and generally looking like he knew how to play football. There were a couple of times where he misread situations including, if I recall, badly misplaying a long ball which let Bunbury get behind him right after he came on (the shot was, fortunately, put over the goal). But, on the whole, he seemed like a worthy depth piece behind Matarrita.

There was a "FCK ISIS" sign; a PEACE banner, with each letter a different flag theme; there was one "Stand Against Terror" (or something similar), with a bunch of hearts colored as flags of countries affected by terrorism. There was also a banner TIFO, but it didn't unravel well, but I think it said something like "Hey ho, Off to Work We Go", right? Someone correct me.

ETA: Great flags again. Classy from the SGs on the message, as well.

Plus a couple of Belgian flags....... Nicely done!
