I was pretty pleased by his performance too given that I really had no idea what to expect. He seemed to "play above his skills" if you will by being aggressive and generally looking like he knew how to play football. There were a couple of times where he misread situations including, if I recall, badly misplaying a long ball which let Bunbury get behind him right after he came on (the shot was, fortunately, put over the goal). But, on the whole, he seemed like a worthy depth piece behind Matarrita.
Add to that, his actually-interesting performances in interviews: http://www.nycfc.com/post/2016/03/25/beyond-pitch-diego-martinez?autoplay=true. Footballers are usually mind-numbing in those situations. Could be that our media team is just killing it right now.I was pretty pleased by his performance too given that I really had no idea what to expect. No, they were there - just mercifully/surprisingly "quiet" for most of the match.Did I miss them or was Shitty Beats gloriously absent today???
I didn't see or hear them from 214A so all good as far as I'm concerned!!!No, they were there - just mercifully/surprisingly "quiet" for most of the match.
Can someone recap the various signs, banners and tifos? Even better if you have pics. There were many, and props to all who did the work. I would try to describe them, but I could not make out all of them precisely from my spot.
Count me in, I'm in 224, top row. Grilled cheese sounds great. You may have to come up to the 2nd level - I'm not sure us Plebians are allowed to travel down without a passport. I'm in 228 and they just opened a grilled cheese/short rib stand (highly tasty) behind it, so you can kill two birds with one stone coming up.
Last year in our 3rd home game of the season we drew 20,461 against Philly, so I'd say this was a big improvement.Middle of the day on a Saturday of Easter weekend = low attendance?
Replying to myself. Purely tactical per Vieira in his interview. Credit for not being stubborn mid-match I suppose, but as said above, weird to get that so wrong after trying Mena at that spot during training per reports earlier this week. Was the Mena sub purely tactical or was there an injury?
Holiday weekend with chilly weather, 23k is solid. Curious to see the other numbers from around the league.Last year in our 3rd home game of the season we drew 20,461 against Philly, so I'd say this was a big improvement.

An outside marking back in a 3-man D is so different than a CB in a 4-man set. I'm surprised they tried him there to begin with. He doesn't have the pace to play sideline to box and cover a fast forwards burst in a man-marking way. Very odd. I can only imagine that with us missing 3 starters, he wanted to get as much pure talent on the field as possible - problem was Mena was a square peg in a round hole.Replying to myself. Ok today Saunders may not have cost us points but if he had better position and better reflexes he should have saved the Giovinco goal. 2 points gone right there. The first goal vs Orlando, all on him for misjudging the flight and misjudging his jump. 1 point right there. So we could have had total of 3 extra pointa if he just did his job a little better. We are not askin him to be buffon in his prime. Just read the play better, have better position, and distribute the ball better. Or better yet be better at 75% of your job. Not to much to ask right?I mean... I just said he was mediocre. Still think he was. Not good, but not awful (some bad plays/distribution by him and some decent). Just think that everyone blaming everything on Saunders every week is going a little too far. The team has other problems.
I love Poku when he's on the ball, but the Poku love is going too far as well. He was decent. As someone else said, he has a little bit of Shelton in him... Doesn't know what to do with it once he gets to where he was trying to go.
Still really early in the season. I think the team will be OK.

I also would give Hernandez pretty high marks for the third match in a row. He's one of the last "unfashionable" guys left from last year, but has made a nice rebound after appearing to lose his job in preseason. Formation change helped him as he seems better in three at the back, but he was pretty good today even after they flipped it.
I still hope for Brillant or Mena to step up because they are higher upside guys, but Hernandez has been pretty good.
Say whaaaaaaaaaaat?
Remembering to clap the supporters section before and after the game does not equal a good performance.
It's been a fun ride for Josh, but a change is long overdue.
