RUMOR: Messi/Pep to MCFC and NYCFC

pep needs players to play his system. MLS rules simply don't allow him to get those players. pep isn't coming to MLS unless he just decides he wants to live in NYC and taking the job is just a hobby/challenge to himself to see if he can take a salary capped team to the top.
100% spot on. Couldn't have said it better myself.

He's the best coach in the world. I'm willing to give him that shot, and I bet he'd do pretty well here. Of course in our system he's not willing 3 straight championships, but I would bet solid money that we would be a very good team under him. Players will want to come here to play for him and the roster will improve quickly. Kind of like what's likely to happen with Miami after Messi's signing.

he's good at making players better and teams want to play for him. he demands perfection and focus. but if he decides to come to MLS it's because he is looking for the easy life. he's not trying to win CCL and then some.

By the time the stadium opens mls roster rules might be very different with Messi the first brick in the wall of mls 4.0. Or 5.0 or whatever it is now .

no doubt messi will change MLS for sure. but i highly doubt letting players get a cut of appleTV+ and adidas jersey sales is going to be the norm. we might get another DP spot though

I also suspect Pep will have more influence with the signing process and CFG than Cush/Lee seems to have.

I've been hoping Pep will come here after his contract at Man City is up.

I could see Pep wanting to prove that he doesn't need the best players on the planet to create a strong team.

At the very least, he will definitely give it some consideration since it's in his contract.

I think it's also safe to say, that after a period of increased visibility due to Messi and the World Cup, MLS will occupy a larger part of his mind than it does now.

It's very possible.

Hey Pep! We just sold your top scorer and best player, but we won’t replace him for a year because that young player we overpaid for hasn’t developed as we hoped and we want to see if we can force him to step up. We know you’ll make it work.
PS: might sell a few other top scorers from the team next window and not replace them right away either.
Ta.

I find this very very hard to believe. unless results take a nose dive, cushing isn't going anywhere and i really doubt he'd just happily step aside to let pep come in.

kdb would be a dream in MLS, but i question whether he'd want to come to NY instead of LA.
Since when would this be Cushing's decision? And the team might just consider tossing Nick if this opportunity comes.

That being said, I doubt this happens.

If pep really wanted to come I don’t think CFG is taking cushing’s feelings in the matter into serious consideration.

If Pep wants to come, Pep is coming.

KDB would be incredible, but this feels unlikely. KDB is still tearing it up in the Prem, why would he leave now?

sure. it's not his decision ultimately, but it's a bad look to force out a manager who is doing well and under contract. if he's out of contract, that's a different story.

The number of people who will consider it a bad idea.

wonder if pep will once again choose the same apartment in the UWS as during his sabbatical. i used to live very close to where he was supposedly staying at.

he will be turning 34 by that time.
