Timbers Postmatch

Another bonus – Mikey showed he was very capable of deputizing in that CDM position. If only we could find a suitable deputy for his position. We really missed his ability to cut out the passing lanes high up the field. Cemented my opinion of Mix as more of a chaser than a stopper.

S sbrylski I agree on Saunders.

Would you rather have Mix or Guzan right now?

Guzan, no doubt.

That said, I would really hesitate to make any midseason move if our defense plays anything like this moving forward. I wouldn't mind a stud center forward or winger over the summer, but I'm ok with riding this season out if the defensive group stays solid. I'm probably so biased though after watching tonight's performance.

I'd look for a new keeper and maybe a new center back over the winter though.

EDIT: Yeah, what am I saying. Guzan over the summer would be a no-brainer.

According to one of the postgame player interview videos, NYCFC left Portland tonight on a plane to Toronto. According to flight information, the only flight traveling from Portland to Toronto Sunday night was Flair Air flight 710. Why have you never heard of them? Because they're a charter company. NYCFC flew private to Toronto. Isn't that against league rules?

They have 4 flights a year that they are allowed to charter

Commentator quote of the night: "And Grabavoy steals the ball from Villa."

# of times Saunders made terrific saves: 5
# of times Saunders gave Portland an open net to shoot at: 2

Had it been Pirlo instead of RJ: This entire thread would be about how that assist should be the MLS assist of the year. Hell, that assist would have a thread of its own.

Was it a hand ball: Hernandez, of course not. RJ, of course.

Most annoying experience: Commentator's curse. Me shouting at the TV for them to shut the hell up every single time Portland had a corner and they waxed poetic about how Portland hasn't scored from a corner yet this year.

Deserving wins: Over the course of a season things tend to balance out. We've dropped points where we deserved better. Last night was a smash and grab where we scored against the run of play. Nice to get one of those.

Anyone else deem this chilly 45 degree morning scarve-worthy?!? (though hopefully you didn't also deem it "bright orange socks-worthy" like I did).

I dunno, man. Every time they showed the replay it looked like the ball bounced up to and off of RJ's chest, then caromed into Adi (? Nagbe? I forget.) and bounced back onto RJ's arm. I feel like there's no justifiable way to call it intentional hand ball, but then I'd probably feel differently as a Portland fan.
