He will have played WC, Premier League (no winter break) and then straight into MLS. For a man of his age I would like him to have at least a month off to refresh and be mentally fresh and motivated for MLS. I think the emotions of playing in the EPL this year will distract him from focusing on NYCFC.

Worth pointing out that Dempsey played for Fulham on loan from Jan 1 to Mar 1 last year. He seemed to do ok when he got back to MLS.

I really doubt Lampard would be too emotionally drained by the PL to get into the MLS. He would have to be an incredibly poor professional for that to be the case. I think people are making a little too much of this. He's unlikely to feel the effects of playing so many games because he's not likely to feature that heavily for MCFC and the MLS season is a lot less tiring than the PL season - once Fernando and Fernandinho return from injury he'll be back to barely ever leaving the sub bench again, and if they'd stayed fit he probably would never have even been played by Man City. He won't need the first two-three weeks of pre-season because that's all about recovering fitness after several weeks away. I don't see it as being that big of a thing.

Yeah, Lampard probably gets the start tonight, but his playing time against Arsenal and Chelsea was a perfect storm: a tough week of 3 games (throw in the trip to Bayern) plus the injuries to Fernando and Jovetic required more rotation in the midfield. I expect him to play in Cup matches and maybe EPL matches immediately before and after UCL matches to help the first teamers stay fresh.

I think it's unfair to say that Wednesday were a very weak side. They'd gone 10 games so far with only one defeat in there and were playing good football. They came out with a lot of attacking intent, gave MCFC's players no time on the ball and they dominated the first 20 minutes, and had had the better chances by halftime. The issue was just that playing at attacking away from home against a CL is always a suicidal tactic once you've gone behind, and their defence wasn't good enough to deal with City's creativity in the second half. Once they'd gone down to 10 men it was just over as a contest. But still, Wednesday played very well for 45 minutes and deserve recognition for that.

Doesn't really matter. If he stays at City, it's not like he'll play so much that he gets worn out. Not once Fernando is back.

If it's a choice between having a crucial role in deciding the PL title or coming back to train, I know which argument will win out.
