Trying to set a budget for food and drink this year.

Past 2 seasons spending below, taking into account Yankee Stadium, that one Citifield game (didn't go to the game in Hartford) and surrounding bars.

CpNIoGA.png

Total 2017: $406.57
Per game (18) : $22.60

Total 2018: $559.11
Per Game (19): $29.42

Few takeaways:
1. Big spikes in mid summer (more home games and the RB derby) and spikes in Nov. + Oct (playoffs).
2. May tends to be a month where I miss games and NYCFC historically go on the road that month.
3. 2018 I started getting beers before and/or after games and that probably accounts for the extra 7 bucks a game over 2017.

Plan for 2019.
I just lowered my season ticket cost from $564.00 to $382.00 (Supporters Section).
I don't like the idea of spending more on food and alcohol than my season ticket cost.
$382.00 / 17 games = ~$22.50 per game.

I'm going to aim to spend no more than
$20 per game this year.

I wonder if anyone else has a budget plan or if you think this is insane given the cost of food and drink at YS. I'm going to get creative in how I make my dollar stretch and (hopefully) update this thread as I go.

Pack a sandwich and chips. Not kidding, it’ll save you a bundle. Visit your local liquor store and purchase some 50ml bottles before each match. During the cold games, sipping whisky is warming and meshes well with hot chocolate. Just don’t leave them lying around empty on the floor afterwards which draws attention.

Yeah that makes total sense. But before I jump to packing a lunch each game, I think I might try to work within the confines of the stadium and see how it goes.

I obviously could just abstain completely from buying anything at the stadium but that kinda takes some of the fun out of it.

I bring gin in a soft-bottle. At worst, I'll get a big lemonade or seltzer water to mix it and I'm out like $10 for the day, compared to maybe 35-50 dollars on beer + having to line up + not ever even really getting buzzed.

Game 1 DC United

Kinda blew it this week. Got to the game right after kickoff and panicked, bought the first beer that I saw. Didn’t realize that it was like 75% of my budget. Settled for peanuts afterwards.

$13.35 Modelo Especial 20oz
$.65 Left the change.
$4.95 Ballpark Peanuts.

Grand total
$18.95

Carry over for next game. $1.05.

Think I found a hot dog at the ballpark that’s under 5 bucks. Third base line near lobel’s.

Also there’s 16oz Pinstripe Pilsners for around 10 bucks.

On to the next one.

Game 2 LAFC - The joy of a “Regular” beer

Making some strides and got a little luck this week. Also made a big discovery: The Regular Beer. Jersey Mikes behind home plate offers a $5.80 Regular 12oz beer(Budweiser or Goose Island IPA) which after tax comes out to $6.05.

I also noticed that the price for a 16oz Budweiser an hour before kickoff is $9.99 but goes up to $11.29 a half hour before kickoff. The screens appear to change closer to kickoff.

I also found the cheapest hot dog in the stadium by far which is on the second deck above the Hard Rock Cafe dead center field. You can get an original Nathan's Hot dog for $4.80 with your season ticket card.

Started off with $21.05

1 Regular Beer $6.05
1 Regular Beer ( this one the guy behind the counter gave me a full sized beer instead because he didn’t know what a Regular Beer was but he charged me for a regular beer) $6.05
1 Original Hot Dog $4.80
1 bag of peanuts $4.95

Going over a bit from my target
Grand total of $22.85

I’ll start with a -$1.80 for next game.

Yes. That's the best way to save money at the stadium. We buy a 12-pack of water and just throw a few in the bag before each game.

Yeah I just buy a $1 water outside the stadium, open it when I get inside, and the water fountains are all good in the Stadium so I just fill up there whenever I need to.

Empty, plastic, reusable water bottles also OK for all the Planeteers out there.

The power ... is yours!
