2017 Roster Discussion

Has MLS really ever tried to recruit from the ranks of Liga MX? I've started watching games here and there in Liga MX and they are incredibly fun to watch. I don't know what a Liga MX player makes, but there have to be options there

depends on the team...chiapas and puebla at times have had problems paying their players you can probably get someone ....but they dont really have anyone worth getting

other teams like tigres/monterrey/ america with money....you can only hope to get bottom of the depth chart bench plater...i mean gignac is getting paid same salary than when he was in france (based on reports)

Can't say we haven't been doing that. We've hit on Matarrita, and have tried with Bravo, Mena, Mendoza (1 and 2), Callens still to come here.

Risk is higher with those guys, I think they'd like to get a better guarantee on established euro guys rather than splashing DP dollars on south american younger guys.

Well, we need to find the amp that goes to 11 then. I don't want Jefferson Mena's, I want guys like Juan Cazares, Miler Bolanos, and Frickson Erazo, to name a few of the best Ecaudorians not in Europe. Why aren't these guys on our DP radar? Why are we only looking in Europe (and getting rejected left and right)?

Thank you T Tom in Fairfield CT and Fantazma Fantazma

I know you can only consumer so much soccer (I do NYCFC, Everton, Celtic and the occasional games involving Juve, Dortmund and La Liga) but if you get a chance, check out Liga MX.

Liga MX games I have watched (at the mexican restaurant I go to that always has games on) are some of the most entertaining games I've seen. Tons of attacking, a lot of that players have impressive flair, and they are pretty rough. Its kind of like lucha libre with a ball.

Good luck pulling 23-year-olds with any upside at all from Europe. They're still dreaming of Champions League.

Pull them from Latin America - get out ahead of the European clubs and pay them a little more. MLS is not a stepping stone from Europe back to Europe, but it can be from Ecuador to Europe.

Aside from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Mexico, the city also has huge Ecuadorian, and Colombian populations. Target those two countries. Hire a top Colombian coach as Sporting Director, VP of Latin American Scouting. Get Reyna a cap guru, if he's not. Work the system.

Nobody on Torino is dreaming of a CL run.

An MLS team being able to grab a quality 23 year old on loan proves it's possible. I don't see why it couldn't be possible. There's plenty of low standing teams in Europe that could use money through loans. The argument that MLS has to be South America "North" is tiring.

If you're willing to go to Atlanta, you're willing to go to NYC
Could be true, but much credit should go to Tata being their manager.

I'm sure their FO has been a big factor as well, but I wonder how many of their signings were lured mainly due to the prospect of playing under a world-renowned manager. Considering that, location may just be a side-factor for these players.

Mix Diskerud posted an Instagram story four hours ago that he's on a flight. Where? Probably New York.
Hmmm.... is he heading to NYC for a brief interlude before heading on to the preseason tournament, or is he coming back to sign a new contract with another team (trade)???

Also, was in NYCFCfan NYCFCfan pod or the SITC, but someone said that an MLS team did want him, but he turned down whatever team it was. May have been MNU.
That's what I was told, I reached out to a source connected to the team in question but they denied it so there's no point in passing on what's clearly just fan speculation at this point. If something more comes of it then I'll talk about it, but at this point I'm treating that as fake news.

Maybe Orlando. They have all that GAM thanks to the Molino trade. And Kreis was the coach for NYCFC when Mix came in...
You mean the coach that stuck him out on the wing?
