2017 Roster Discussion

The issue is (much as with music downloads) when it's so expensive and inconvenient for people to get what they want, they'll find other ways to do it. Whether it's streaming or downloading from P2P sites.

As companies realized an easy to access and unpackaged product would sell well (like iTunes did) it'll change it all. There's a few companies out there already wading into it but that's neither here nor there for the Roster discussion thread so....

Who replaces Lampard in Midfield? Has to be TMac for me.

Harrison.

I'm confident that Diskerud doesn't come in from the dark, but it's not a bad shout.

Someone has to plug that hole that currently isn't starting. Chances are we don't pick up a DP until mid season we didn't have lamps for half the season and it worked out fine this year so it shouldn't hurt us a lot.
Hopefully it was just a one year ban for mix lol

I would move Matarita to midfield where his skills are better suited. He is not a good defender but could be a vey good attacking player that can also defend from midfield.

As my 4 year old and I were walking away after chatting with him on the street over the weekend, my kid said to me something along the lines of, "Daddy I was going to ask him why he never plays anymore and whether he will ever play for us again." That would have been awkward, but maybe we could have uncovered some critical intel!

I couldn't bring myself to ask him when I saw him at training.

Yes we would need a LB that can actually defend and there are many LB around the world that we can bring in at a reasonable price. I really like Matarita in the midfield.

Maybe, but the midfield is pretty crowded right now.

i don't think the midfield is that crowded - Pirlo, Tmac, Bravo (might go back to Boca Juniors), Lopez (hopefully he is gone) , Mix (most likely gone) , lampard (gone) so no problem in moving him to midfield

And thus we witness the final unwinding of the Kreis legacy, more midfielders that we could ever hope to play.

Big question for me is what strategy are we targeting? It has to be one built around Pirlo, so what does that look like?

Would a 4-4-2 be out of the question if we get a DP target man up front? Or is the 4-3-3 the city way across all of the teams?

Someone who's better connected than I am said that the team saw Jack Harrison as a CM. Where does that put our greatest weaknesses? And if the team wants to play Pirlo with Jack at CM doesn't that almost force us into a 4-4-2?

Edit: I almost want to discount a 3-5-3. I don't think we have the players defensively to hold the line, and players offensively to win back the ball right goddamn now that that formation would require.

I would be shocked if we weren't playing a 4-3-3 next year. Harrison is versatile and could play almost anywhere offensively. He will eventually be the focal point of your midfield. Doesn't mean it has to happen this season.

You're talking about a formation with Wing backs - then you need a RWB and you lose Harrison/Shelton/McNamara.

And Iraola looked awful at Sweeper.

In the limited time, yes, but the whole back line looked awful TBH.

3-4-3 you keep your wingers.

But I agree. He's definitely going to stay 4-3-3.
