He’s come to terms with being a family man and that those extra games/travel impact his health/career/paying job. Now the question is if he makes NYCFC long-term (he’s the de facto capt/leader when Villa leaves) or throws his hat in for another euro stint....

So, I take it he sees himself staying at NYCFC, or at least this side of the Atlantic for the long term of the remainder of his professional career. He's only 27.

I know this isn't 2019 Roster Discussion but I want to start discussing how we should construct our roster for next year. I'm starting to think it would be for the best to only buy low cost bargains this off-season. Then by the summer window we'd have a large amount of resources in the summer window and strategically get hot for the playoffs. I call it the Seattle. Thoughts?

That is very worrisome, they will want a name to make sure the casuals in the fanbase don't leave in droves. Let's hope they do the leg work and get a name that still has something left in the tank, more Villa less Lampard/Pirlo.

With the Villa and Medina injuries, we've essentially needed to replace a DP this season as well.
I am OK waiting until the Summer to find a DP IF it's the right DP.
I agree, assuming they go for a name, and I think they will, we need another Villa. Ideally 32 years old or younger with multiple near peak years left. No idea how you get someone like that in the winter, no team is parting with someone of that caliber midseason. Even Villa was a Summer signing, they just stashed him on Melborne for a few months.
