2018 Roster Discussion

Most notable to me: Yangel Herrera has a guaranteed contract in 2018. LETS FUCKING GO.

Edit: Sorry if that was addressed in previous threads, but have been so busy that I've been taking a post season break from the board til (what I thought was gonna be uninterrupted, but this news brought me back) January.

Under Contract: Callens, Chanot, Harrison, Herrera, Johnson, Lewis, McNamara, Moralez, Ring, Sands, Villa and Wallace

Option Exercised: Awuah, Matarrita, Rawls, Shelton, Sweat

Cut: Allen, Brillant, Camargo, Gomez, Johansen, Lopez, Mena, Okoli, Stertzer, Struna and White.

My Talking Points
1. Yangel Herrera is listed under, "The following players already had guaranteed contracts for the 2018 season." So we have him for 2018? I thought he was on loan for a season. This is truly odd.
2. Vieira said we wouldn't be adding many pieces in 2018. We cut 11 players. We added 12 in 2017. So we're going to stack up again especially for depth.
3. Brillant is an odd cut. He was a good filling in for Chanot during the 2nd half of the season but he's an expensive bench option.
4. Khiry Shelton is trade bait. I hope.
5. We have 6 internationals on the roster currently, unless any current internationals get greed cards. We have 2 empty international roster spots. Adding a third new international player would require a trade.

I was very surprised to see Brilliant cut, and only a little less surprised to see Struna cut.

What more could Brilliant have possibly done to keep at least a roster spot than put in a pretty good shift at CB for almost all of last season? Weird.

And Struna seemed to have potential.

I wouldn't look at it as cut. In a capped league he is expendable when you have Callens making $180k
