2018 Roster Discussion

Here's what I think the depth chart looks like. For an 18-man roster, I'd go with the first XI plus Berget, Tajouri, McNamara, Ofori, Hountondji, Abdul-Salaam, and Stuver. Eventually I'd hope to see Lewis for Wallace and Sands for McNamara (on the theory that Ofori looks like he can probably play CM).

We really need more midfield depth for when Herrera and Ring are off on international duty.

Yeah, even with Ofori we need more midfield depth period.

That back four + CDM international leave is quite worrying. We can be with Sweat---?---?----Abdual Salaam plus James Sands if all called up during the same time.

The good news is that only Matarrita and Tinnerholm are potential World Cup callups, so we could get off kind of light this season. But yeah a bad international break could devastate our back five.

I just checked the FIFA calendar and, outside of the World Cup, these are the only three regular season games that fall on international breaks. Pretty sweet scheduling for us.

March 24 - New England
September 5 - New England
September 8 - D.C.

We don't even need our international players to beat New England!

And Wallace

Yeah, I overlooked Wallace, he'll almost definitely go. Matarrita missed a bunch of qualifiers but is at least in the mix. And Tinnerholm got called up for a couple friendlies last month after being ignored for years so who knows.

Yes, 2017 Roster Rules were published on February 1, 2017. They're quite late now.

The 2016 roster rules were announced on March 4 and 2015 on May 1. Never know what you're going to get with this league, but publishing them around the start of the season tends to be the norm.

My new favorite follow mentions that COL also has 10 int’l players for 8 spots. And many other teams are over as well. Seems like MLS just hasn’t announced a new rule change yet.

I posted on here a few weeks ago that there are currently more international players in MLS than international spots, so they've definitely increased the number of int'l spots per team, at least one extra if not two.

If you lose Tinnerholm, you could go 3 in the back with Chanot as a RCB. Sweat has deputized at RB for us as well.

I believe that Ofori is considered a box to box player.
