2021 Roster Discussion

The media needs to sell ad space. Not sure how much interest there really is in what David Lee has to say.

Although I do agree that he needs to speak more. Just don’t k ow if there’s a media outlet for that

The NY Post just published a long feature on James Sands. There is absolutely interest. And again, they can put a long 20-minute interview on their own website. It doesn't have to be in a newspaper.

Exactly. The ones who are looking for that sort of stuff will find it. There is room for all sorts of varieties of fans - from the casual ones who see games on sports channels, all the way to the ones that spend hours a day scrounging for transfer rumors.

i thought you decided he was a scammer? surprised you're still entertaining him.
Also fwiw, I just checked and

this is his profile on the nycfc website, so it seems legit...

based on the pic alone... looks like a scammer to me.

not only that - but you don't know the person you talked to is that person. anyone can pick a name off the website and use it to scam you.

Spoofing. It's terrible. Looks like the real phone number is calling you too. Never give out any personal information over the phone.

And what about via email? Email matches his email on the website as well

It may very well be him. His methods just seem extremely unorthodox. If you're getting emails from him, just make sure they are actually the correct email and not a spoof. All official email from nycfc are secured by tls encryption and signed by fanmail.nycfc.com.

Just check for that and you're good to go. I wouldn't deal with him on the phone cause you want any promises he makes on the record anyway. Don't let a salesman swindle ya!

So we’re in pre quarantine starting Monday right?

I think it’s fair to be upset about the lack of new players starting on Monday

"On March 8, after the team completes a mandatory quarantine in line with MLS' policy, NYCFC will depart for training camp in Florida until March 27"

The club quarantined (which is BS because Taty and Medina posted dining outside in NYC this week) from March 1 to March 7, while training at the CFA in Orangeburg.

It's funny, but I'm finding it harder to keep track of a small number of minor acquisitions than I am a normal mixed bag of big and small.

We've brought in Amundsen, a couple of draftees, and the keeper from the USL. Is that it?

Minus Mitrita, Scally, Ring, Matarrita, Mackay-Stevens, Stuver, Zelalem.

We signed Amundsen and Mizell (USL GK).

We drafted 2 players who are still unsigned.

wow. I assumed the quarantine started on Monday considering those two were out to dinner

Still not enough players to field a full 11 v. 11 scrimmage, as mgarbowski mgarbowski had hoped a few weeks back, without dipping into the academy. Sounds like trialists won't be common this preseason based on recent reporting from the Athletic.

Here's a look at the past two off-seasons -- different lengths obviously, so not a straight up comparison. Lots of minutes to fill.

Players out after 2019 season (34 games/3060 minutes)
Sweat (18 games/13 starts/1265 minutes)
Ofori (20/14/1261)
Miller (5/4/329)
Bedoya (1/0/1)

Players in for 2020 season (23 games/2070 minutes)
Thorarinsson (19/7/683)
Acevedo (12/1/128)
Zelalem (1/0/14)

Minutes replaced by:
Sweat -> Gudi and healthier Mata
Ofori -> Parks

Players out after 2020 season
Ring (23/23/2016)
Matarrita (21/19/1649)
Mitrita (12/8/699) *+DNP-CD -- 4 games
GMS (22/10/956)
Zelalem (1/0/14)

Players in for 2021 season
Amundsen (?/?/?)

Minutes to be replaced by:
Ring (DM) -> healthier Sands and Acevedo(?)
Ring (LW) ->
Mata -> Gudi and Amundsen
Mitri ->
GMS ->

Does Tajouri-Shradi stay healthy to absorb minutes on the wing? Can't count on that. For reference, he played (15/6/670) in 2020, or a third of the minutes in the season.

Are any of the younger homegrowns ready to crack into the lineup?

Andres Jasson looked like he could be ready for some minutes. And I really liked Osaze De Rosario from last pre-season. Neither dampen my disappointment at not making a better effort to get a team ready to challenge for a championship right from the beginning of the season. They appear to be fine with mid-season acquisitions this season which means it could be some rough sledding in the beginning.

He signed with an agent overseas. Don't think he'll be playing for NYCFC.
