2021 Roster Discussion

A red bull home grown saying "NY IS BLUE" at the end... must really sting for RB fans! :D
They'll say whatever they need to on the team they're part of now - looks at Schalke/Dortmund players that played for both, or Inter/AC etc...

However that being said, I really do enjoy this one as it certainly does give a nice sting to it >:D

Latest rumor is Brazilian winger/striker Thiago Andrade (20) to NYCFC in a CFG transaction. Twitter chatter flagged by @brendampc, with the original source here -- by @PVC, an established sports journalist in Brazil.

Slim transfermarkt profile here. Looks like he's had 12 first team appearances, all in 2021, if I'm reading the game logs correctly.

Blog post framed in the context of (auto-translated):
New York City could lose striker Castellanos to Palmeiras in the middle of the year.

snooping around with translated tweets i get responses that- "kid needs minutes" or " he has speed and talent but needs polishing, at times he cant finish" ...so hes a prospect right now, so yes i think this is our type of target..lol. he plays in the Bahia U20 team and only has a couple of first team games from what i can gather.

i also found a few tweet replies alluding that taty may leave in the summer now since it didnt happen in winter transfer window so who knows.

EDIT: Bahia fans seem to want a high fee for him or a percentage of his ownership for future sales, since they still see potential in the kid

Using translators and inferring some thing, he seems to say he's physically talented but plays "slow" in the sense that experience doesn't tell him where to be at the right times, i.e., he's raw. Prefers LW. Was a core part of their U-20 team but needed to take another step forward before transitioning to the first team. Probably selling him too early but the club is in need of money.

Comments are also saying he has lots of potential but frustratingly fails to convert too often.

And a highlight reel seems to confirm all of that lol:

We’re now banking on prospects to salvage our squad. Stupid.

i mean its what other teams do as well. Atlanta bought barco and other kids in i think this year. cincy brought the Sao Paulo kid. LAFC bought Rossi, i think Austin also brought young guys. sure they all played first division games but its still a question mark how they will do here. I mean look at barco he still has not exploded as much as someone with his price tag should.

age is not the issue. now if you mean lack of quality of our signings then yes we can question/ criticize that.

They bought guys that had already played at this level. This kid plays in the U20s.

It’s like paying $4 million for a 19 year old kid in the Paraguayan league.

and they can still be busts. its all a risk.

but i dont know why this is shocking to you. its been 6 seasons, you cannot expect the team to be spenders because they never been spenders ( mitri was the exception and now hes away on loan). you cannot expect them to all of a sudden change their ways because this is not what CFG does with its teams outside of man city.

many have not liked it and no longer watch the team or follow it because of lack of spending. but imo for those still here getting mad at the lack of big money signings is almost silly at this point. this is what nycfc is under CFG.

true, we used it to pay salaries of Mix, Pirlo and to a lesser extent lampard.

mitri and medina were mistakes and now that the FO has seen their mistakes they taking this route of spending even less.

Just because something is bad and precedent doesn't mean we should accept that, and that it needs to be that way
