You can sell tickets and just refund people if the event doesn't happen. That's what the Yankees do. You can buy primary market World Series Game 7 tickets if you want right now.

this is true. why didn't they just sell tickets for BOTH stadiums. and then whichever one got cancelled gets refunded. give city members first choice at citi field and then free for all. refunding the tickets for the un-used venue wouldn't take much effort.

only thing i can think of that prevented them from doing this was simply because for whatever reason, the agreement they had with the yankees and mets didn't let them.

buying another ticket is complicated? they already published/announced what the situation was with the stadium. saying that you _can_ (not required) buy your tickets now for both venues and the unused ticket will be refunded isn't really that complicated.

I don't see fans buying tickets to two different events knowing that only one of them will happen. That's twice the effort to get a seat and money that is tied up for some period.

Now, maybe there is a way to have someone who buys a ticket select a preferred seat in each venue, but - again - that's a lot of extra work.

Because maybe the best way to have a good field at Citi is to lay sod several days in advance but nobody wants to pay for that if we switch back to YS 3 days before the game?

What if they had a system where you pick a seat in each stadium, charge you for the more expensive one, and then once the stadium is announced they give you the seat you picked. If it's in the stadium with the cheaper seat, then you get refunded to that amount...

i have faith that the club's "top box office team" could have figured it all out when we clinched home field advantage.

you make valid points. i understand there's a lot of logistics involved and a lot of moving pieces and a lot of different people in different situations wanting different things. can't please everyone and the club's hands are tied on a great many other things. like Lion, I just want to play in our "home". just doesn't feel right if it is left sitting empty.
