Wait, they started training at 6am after an overnight flight? Or they arrived at 6am, then started training in the afternoon?

Either way, he's working them hard. I thought the team would generally get a day off for travel and/or after each gameday.
The tweet was from 2:51 PM. That's probably when they started training. For last night's starters, today could literally be no more than a light run, tactics, set pieces, and a lot of time on the massage table/sauna/whirlpool.

Does anyone consider this a rivalry in the making with some seriously intense/physical games already in the history books?

Edit: it's also red vs blue

It's really pretty early for that, but last year's games were chippy. One roadblock is Toronto already has Montreal and Vancouver as rivals. That said, Toronto probably views the other two as little brothers because they're Toronto, so maybe they'll think New York is their actual equal.

A rivalry probably won't get locked in until we make the playoffs and get pissed off by or piss someone else off with a 91' goal in a second leg.

Hopefully the final standings in each of the next few years are (1) NYCFC, (2) Toronto, ..., (10) Red Bulls.

EDIT: MLS should have saw the budding rivalry though and scheduled us Toronto a third time this year. Wednesday is the last time we face them. Again, hopefully their our Conference Finals opponent this year :)

Anyone tempted to make the (mid-week, across-a-border) trip to check out the renovated BMO Field?
I would but I just came back Quebec with 8-hour drives both ways so the car needs to rest. BMO field sounds like it would be a good place to catch a game though.

I'm heading up. Flying up Weds morning and back insanely early Thursday morning.
You hit a lot of away games. Is this a solo act or do you go with your family? Just wondering since I think my wife would laugh at me if I ever asked to travel to so many games.

I usually bring my daughter, Leah, but for this one I'm leaving her home since it is midweek and apparently I'm supposed to send her to school and all. I am fortunate to have a very tolerant wife!

i'll be driving out to Toronto early Wednesday morning, and leaving for NY right after the game. besides that if NYC can stay hot it'd be amazing. with the line up i see a couple changes occurring in order for some players to get some rest. my predicted line up is
---Josh---
Martinez--Brillant--Hernendez--RJ
Bravo--Mix--Lopez
Shelton-Villa-Tony

with all three subs being used, i see Lampard coming in for Mix in the 70th min, Mullins coming in for villa and depending if were winning the game i see either white or iraola coming in for shelton and parking the bus like we did against Toronto. depending on how much pressure Toronto applies to us

Taylor - Villa - Mendoza
Mix - Bravo - Lopez
Mata - Brilliant- Hernandez - RJ
Johansen

Would only change the players who have been looking tired recently - Shelton and TMac. Pirlo also needs a rest as he can't play 3 games in a week.
Keeping the back 4 the same as every game they seem to get better and better every game.
Mata, Lopez, RJ could be rested but the first 2 don't seem to ever get tired and although RJ has had some injuries he is needed to shut down Giovinco.
Wouldn't like to see us rest the whole team as a big loss to a conference rival would be bad for confidence heading into the derby, also with this lineup i think we can pick up a point atleast whilst being able to rest some players for the derby.

I think it could be. I remember Perquis being a little prick last year, and Jacobson was just as big of an asshole back to Toronto, but now he's gone. I'm sure the intensity will still be at a high level.

Jacobson < Bravo.

Very soon, every teams' supporters will hate Bravo because he does the little things that get under their players' skin.

This might be overly simplistic, but I'd rest anyone who needs it and nobody else. This does mean you have to trust your players to tell you how they feel, while occasionally overruling if you think they'll tell you they can go no matter what, but based on recent form and such, I would think it breaks down like this, just based on rest and not strategy, who's better, etc.

Must or should rest:
Villa (he'll claim otherwise)
Shelton (looked gassed)
TMac (although he could fool me)
Pirlo
Hernandez - (worked like crazy)
Brillant (maybe he could go but rest one rest the other?)

Why does everyone think Pirlo needs a rest simply due to his "advanced age"? True he is not the most physical guy but it does not mean he does not have stamina or endurance. I am not disagreeing with the prevailing viewpoint but I am just pointing out we shouldn't automatically assume he gets tired more easily than the younger team members. After all, most endurance races (iron men, tri/deca-thon, 100 miles...etc) are won by folks in late 30s to mid 40s. As long as we don't demand Pirlo sprint/accelerate too much, running at constant speed is not necessarily more taxing on him than on other players. And he does seem to run at constant speed most of the game with few acceleration/outbursts (required to cut into defense or save on defense)
