Notable that of the 4 Dortmund goals, Weston McKinnie was a half step away from stopping the assist 3 times. At least two of those were when he was covering for defensive lapses by others.
Marcus Thuram scored for Borussia MG . I'm guessing he already has more career goals than his father?
It was great to see soccer yesterday. Yes, it was a little weird to see it in an empty stadium, and the lack of crowd noise made the proceedings slightly less compelling.

The empty seats and lack of cheering weirded me out at first, but I got used to it and it bothers me less than most others based on the comments I’ve seen.
I do wish they went all out with directional field mikes. Even not knowing German I love hearing them call to each other and I would like it to be clearer.
What do you think about the gameplay? It seems to me that open play is a bit less physical but in set pieces and anything in front of goal it gets more normal.
It definitely has a preseason feel, but it's hard to tell whether that's due to a lack of match fitness or the lack of crowds. I think we'll need a few more weeks of games to really make that determination.
Interesting. I was inferring it was an attempt to go halfway between distancing and normal game play. You might be right, but we'll never know because I expect no matter what the cause they're all consistent with games getting more physical going forward.
I can't imagine that will happen, but I wonder if there's a way to have fans cheering remotely. Could you have 1,000 people on a zoom call and pipe that through the loudspeakers? I'm sure it would sound bad, but would it be usable?

ZYanksRule -- I thought I read or heard that one venue did broadcast some crowd noise. RBL maybe?
To be clear, I don’t expect additions to the stadium would happen right away. But a team could find ways to get a couple hundred people in while keeping everyone apart and in that way add some crowd noise. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that in a few weeks if things progress well.
Yeah I know other leagues that started without fans are starting to think about having fans. Taiwan's baseball league has started, and I think South Korea's baseball leauge is looking at June with having limited fans. So there's a chance that by some time in summer you could open maybe 20% of the seats for fans if the virus is still in retreat there. Seems like in New York we are not likely to have that happen for a while, though.
I think pretty much every US stadium can allow 10-30% capacity with virtually zero risk of transmission. It would take spread seating. Probably assigned entry time and gate to avoid lines, No or very limited concessions and extra staffing to organize bathroom lines and constant cleaning among other precautions.
The problem is, unless they quintuple ticket prices, it probably is not cost effective to open an entire stadium for such limited capacity. Not to mention few jurisdictions would allow it right now.
Personally, I like going to sporting events when the crowd is packed and raucous and I can move freely through the stadium at my will, so this scenario does not appeal to me. I find it unlikely that I see a live event this year unless a vaccine surprises us very early.

I don't think New York will allow any fans in the stadium for a long time. And personally, I won't feel comfortable going to a game until there's a vaccine, either. I can't imagine I'm sitting in the stands at Yankee Stadium until some time in the 2021 season.
