CCL - February 23 - Santos de Guapiles (Home*)

Yes it sucks, but this actually ... makes a lot of sense. Why fly from Costa Rica to New York to Los Angeles when you can just go straight to Los Angeles. If Yankee Stadium and Citi Field aren't approved, and RBA isn't available, where else would you play this game?

Also CONCACAF needs to ease up on its approved stadiums thing. Half the teams in the competition can't play in their home stadiums; it's a joke. To me, this is more on CONCACAF than on NYCFC, especially when you see how many teams can't get approval to play in their home stadiums.

Yes, if not at YS, make it as convenient as possible for the players coming off of a short off season and approaching a schedule glut. Sucks for us, but better for the players.

Not to mention the idea that February in New York sucks as all hell. I don't think anyone; players, coaches, or fans wants to play in 20 degree temperatures.

I also think CONCACAF should let us play at YS and Citi, but for this game wouldn't they be unavailable to us because of winterization something something? Isn't that why we always start the season on the road? It ain't because of weather since we started one season in Chicago.

My guess is that if NYCFC wanted to start its home season earlier, Yankee Stadium could figure out a way if given enough time. They played hockey games there in January one year, so with enough time YS could probably be ready.

I think the real reason is that NYCFC requests not to play home games the first weekend or two due to the miserable conditions we frequently see in NY during February/March. That's just an educated guess on my part.

I mean, a 6 PM mid-week game, in the freezing cold, during school break, at RBA would have sucked for everyone, fans and players alike.

That game would have drawn 500 fans.

From a scheduling standpoint I get this decision. I'm ambivalent since I'm in the middle of the country and now tempted to actually try to go watch this in LA.

Would have been nice if the FO had sent a notice to STH letting them know the reasons for the decision. I understand why they are doing it, but they need to be upfront with us on a continuous basis.

I would have gone to this game at RBA.

it's on the website. YS/citi are not approved by concacaf. RBA is doing maintenance to the field and is unavailable.
