City Beats Vs Rhythm?

I don't mind listening to City Beats perform before, throughout ,and after the game. However they can do a better job adding onto our chants. Third rail would start a chant and right before it dies City Beats will start playing the same chant after it was chanted 10x. If not, ever worse they would start playing a song in the middle of a chant and confuses everyone outside the supporters section. They should either be starting the chants and we follow and/or add onto the chants. The game had a great crowd today, best I've seen so far. However we could be so much better if we were cohesive. Am I the only one who realized this?

No, you're not. It's a REALLY simple fix... just move City Beats behind 236/237. I know they are trying to let us do our own thing but I don't see a reason why they can't just follow us during the game.

I was surprised to see they were at the second game (and that they had more than one drum!) - thought they were just the halftime entertainment for the season opener - one of the SGs should try and contact them to see if they can move to the supporters section like @roxfontaine said

I think they are trying to spread the noise around to both bleacher areas. Regardless, the SGs and them need to coordinate to avoid being redundant.

And for those actively involved in the SGs songs can we PLEASE stop with the "hey baby" chant, it's so bad it's laughable. Once I could deal with but it seems like it's the go to chant and is constantly repeated. Am I the only one that thinks this???

It's only because there aren't many chants and the ones we do know aren't coordinated correctly.

People constantly talk about organic development but since we aren't organized enough to try new chants, nothing gets sung.

I'm starting to lose a little faith in TR when it comes to chants/song construction, i think it has to be said, and this is just my opinion.

I like what the group has done for the club and respect all the members, after all, I have tickets there as well but they need to talk a bit more amongst themselves about who does what when.

Only if your standing right in front at 236 can you hear if anyone starts or leads a chant, then it still takes a while to trickle out towards the rest of the crowd. By then the chant is over.

Plus, I'm not in agreement either with handing out the songs before the game, then not singing half of them or at least letting people know that you are.

I know this goes against the anti-capo, anti-leader, anti-GMO chant stance the group has adopted, but something has to be done.

We are fighting against the Yankee stadium architecture which isn't helping sound travel.

Also, it seems like two of the song leaders in the groups are about 22 years old, at least at the Philly game there were.

I'm 31, not old or so young by any means, but shouldn't we have two guys a bit older or more experienced calling out a chant? Someone people will look up to and respect a bit when they start to lead?

If you want to stand in a supporter section, it means more than just holding the Tifo up during the opening and clapping a bit.

Just my .2 cents. Hope it doesn't come across as ungrateful or a rant, I've had a great time at every game.

I think we're pushing some of the chants that work, far too long. Three stanzas max, and it would probably be better if we shortened some of them. Some of the best chants I have ever heard in Football abroad are short and sweet. Trust me, the guys are trying to get it together. But, there are a lot of people not singing. I was in the aisle between 236 & 237 Row 11 and I could count on one hand how many people were singing. As I lose my voice every week. It will come together as the team comes together! :)

The "Hey Baby" chant actually sounds pretty good on TV at least it did vs the Timbers!

I like and agree with most of your .2 cents. I could not had written it better. However I would not mind getting the words before the game to follow the chants. I'm in the Delta Section and we all are very sedate. not much happens there.

I never hear them during the game, only during the half. Los Templados 12 handles the percussion in the supporter section.

Sorry for the length in advance.

Re: some of the above comments:

-City beats should just give all their instruments to LT12 so we can really bring the noise in the supporters sections. Total bs we are allowed 1 bass drum, and no other instruments, and have to make due with that, while they get paid by the FO to attempt to be some sort of a 'supporters' band. Talk about giving more fodder to our opponents regarding plasticity...

-All the groups (TR, HoO, LT12, BBSC, Blue Ladies, etc.) are really working hard in my view every single game to try and unite behind chants - and seem to be moving towards a semi-capo type of system. I stood in 236 about 10 rows back from the front, close to 237, and we were doing our best to keep the songs going. A lot of us in 236/237 tried to introduce some variety (Win or lose/vamos mi celestes, vamos ser campeon/NY (hey jude)), which got several blank stares from many people in the heart of the stands, which is amazing to me at this point, given how widely distributed these core songs have been in the past few month or so. I don't have any magic bullet answers either for how things can be instantly "better," but the effort cannot be questioned. We just need to keep chopping wood. Also, this is all supposed to be about having fun, right? The vast majority of supporters seem to be doing just that, so seems like so far good.

-What does age have anything to do with respect? I am 35. I follow the lead of whoever is willing to be a leader, be they 18, 85, or somewhere in between. The people who have been getting us going, and continue to try to get us going, have my respect, and should have your respect, regardless of age, as long as you judge them on the merits of their actions, not what their (perceived) age is.

-I 100% agree that you should not be in the SS if you aren't going to participate. I saw dozens of folks standing silent for the majority of the game during chants on Sunday, despite the best efforts of the leaders. Wtf are they doing there? Unless they are all 1st timers/people who got tickets from STH who couldn't make the game, go sit in the 200s/100s on the side of the field if you are going to do that.

-At least a good portion of the chants should actually go on longer, not end after 2-3 times, in my opinion. You create that intimidating "wall of sound" much more effectively that way. If each is too short, and you only want to sing certain songs 1x a game, you will need about 45-50 different songs to fill the 90, maybe more. I don't think any SGs come close to doing that, not even the really great established ones like ECS and TA.

-I don't love "hey baby" either. But if it gets people going because they know it, I'd rather that than have 1-2 min of silence while we try to figure out what to do next. It can be a crutch at times, but as new supporters, we need some of those fall back songs, even if they aren't so hot, just to keep the sound level up. Right now we only have a regular roster of about 5-10 chants/songs, so repetition is going to be a reality until we increase our catalog.

-Oh City said I was rolling through much of the bleachers on Sunday, I thought. Heard it and sang it multiple times.

If the horns (assuming you mean instruments) were actually ours to use, yep, we'd love to have them blaring. Property of City Beats/NYY/NYCFC, while we are left with one fucking drum.

238, or at least parts, have a separate list with one or two overlapping songs. Off tue top of my head, Bx to Battery and Hey Baby are TR only.

I'm pretty sure we were doing Hey Baby in 238 along with TR as well, that and alternating "New York" - "City!" chants. I think getting everyone involved works out the best, makes us most audible on tv and the stadium, and we actually look sort of organized as supporters.

Now if the supporters could somehow coordinate with City Beats, that would make us a force to be reckoned with.
